Unitarian Universalism - which from what I read is a cop out for whatever you want - not quite me, but then I don't give a monkeys what anyone believes if it doesn't marginalise anyone. Problem with Belief O Matic to me is that it presupposes too much that you have some belief, I have none in anythi...

Possibly the only series that has come close to TC for me has been the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons - so rich, complex, great characters and recommended to me somewhere on the Watch

Surely how you deal with desires is what qualifies your worth as a character? That's all that there is to it for me. Most desires are perfectly natural, even extreme ones; what you do with them, that's the real fulcrum. I think you wrap yourself in knots if you start doling out guilt for having desi...

I hated the whole scene and found it very difficult to comprehend, dream or not. TO do that and to a kid as well.... But it is pivotal to the whole story and isn't forgotten. You'll know having read more of LFB how it plays on his mind. It's an event that makes TC's character all the more intriguing...

Iryssa, I agree in fact everyone I agree, I woke this morning feeling particularly self fullfilled even though my little one persisted in getting up half the night! Happiness is of course entirely subjective as are all the themes in this thread. Maybe the question should be "is pursuit of happi...

Jem - what is self improvement, how do you quantify it and to what ends is it focused? Surely focused to happiness and self fulfillment? Ultimately I suppose that self improvement is only measured by yourself, so maybe my question is irrelevant? I like to feel better about myself, whether that be do...

you make such a good point here about Covenant and Foul being the same. Much debated point on the Watch, but one I've always agreed with. So much time shifiting available in the Last Chrons, could well be true. What a fantastic possibility though - Fould could be Covenant from another time frame and...

I've just got to the point in Runes where TC speaks to Linden thru Anele. FOr me the book gained a new depth when that happened so I MUST have missed him more than I thought!

Did you miss Covenant?

I was asking myself is Runes any the worse off for not having TC in it, and I can honestly say ( I think) that I am that chuffed to be reading about the Land again, it didn't really bother me. I think there's a lot of parallels between Linden's character & TC, especially in her struggle over how...

I like this thread. Sheol obviously has some deep lying resentment or anger towards the Christian faith. I make no apologies for my atheism but I don't think I'd have a go so vehemently, well not sober anyway! It's all about repsecting other people's opinions isn't it? Go easy mate.... trying to sti...

perhaps he meant truth is beautiful in it's isolated absoluteness and purity as a concept - ie somehting that wholly "is" should be appreciated for it's entire "rightness" in that it is incontravertible, unassailable. I don't think that Plato was after qualifying truth by looking...

you probably gather that I'm an evangelical atheist (oxymoron??) - wouldn't there be a great sense of irony if it were all true and the reasons that atheists form their opinions is due to the despotic (to continue your erudite vein Avatar!) preachings of the Christian churches, especially the Cathol...

Hi All, seems to me there's two points being argued in this thread and they're entirely separate I think: 1. does the bible contain hsitorical accuracies? 2. do you believe the spiritual implications? If you are looking to the bible to gain spiritual insight, justification, faith, whatever, surely t...

I'm not sure, I thought the first few chapters in the hospital etc with Roger were very gripping but whilst I am really enjoying it, I thought it plodded a bit until the scene on the mountainside when all of a sudden you get Ramen, Kresh and ur viles all at once. This is where I'm upto now. It is qu...

Zef you make some humdinging points mate, For starters, who decides it is right or wrong to drink? I like a good drink, but I'm no alcoholic.
