I got about as far into Wizards First Rule as you. As a SRD fan, I think you will enjoy the Farseer Trilogy much more. I had problems with the trilogy, and the sequel trilogy, but the first three books are well worth the journey. There is also a parallel trilogy of book by Robin Hobb, set in the sam...

#metoo movement is more about shining a light at institutionalised marginalisation of women through sexuality, and rape is obviously a huge part of that. Having said this, Covenant's act seems as horrific, unreconcilable and unforgivable now as it did then. Donaldson did not ameliorate or disguise i...

This is bad.

I should NOT have posted here.

Now I'm beginning to seriously think I really should re-read the Last Chronicles!

Yep, about to tackle the new novellas. Last time I posted when the Last Dark came out I was preparing for a rather drastic change of career. I am now half way through an Engineering Degree in Mechatronics. I have been designing and building robots. Prior to this I was an art director at a marketing ...

I've never been the most prolific poster but thought I should stop by and say hello.

I am about to read some NEW SRD. Unlike the last time, I am looking forwards to it!

I've always enjoyed Mieville's work, and have read everything except King Rat. It's genuinelly weird without sacrificing entertainment. How did you get hold of this novella? I haven't read it.

'Cugel's Saga', and it's sequel 'The Eyes of the Overworld' are simply excellent, and enormously entertaining. I highly recommend them. The good thing is, if you enjoy 'Cugel's Saga' you're in for a treat with 'The Eyes of the Overworld' which is actually even better! If you're after more Vance you ...

Despite all the other great work on this particular art subforum, this is still far and away my favourite post. Just wanted to say, Frostheart Grueburn, that this is the post I come back to time and again. Your artwork here never fails to put a smile on my face. And your proportions of the giantesse...

<Linden casts: POST RESURRECTION +3 > It's been a long time since I've picked up any SRD. I was considering reading the Last Chronicles again, since I felt my reaction to the finale was perhaps a little too emotional, being so close to it at the time. But I've just re-read my critique at the start o...

There's absolutely no doubt about SRD's technical skill with words - a wonderful command of both modern and archaic vocabulary, and the ability to conjure imaginary locations to the mind's eye. I think mostly we are concerned with the resolution of the various plot threads and thematic crescendos wh...

Well it's a while now since I finished the book.

And without the emotion of the time, I can still say with a clear conscience that the ending sucked.

'effortless' is the exact word I'd use too!

Holy crap I never thought of it in that light.

Extending this line of thought, with SRD as the actual 'creator' of the Land….

Would love to be there, but unfortunately I'm in Australia. Can someone throw something at SRD for me though? A shoe might be fine - but with the soul removed - since that's how I'm feeling after the Last Chronicles…

;)

Jokes! Anyway, I'm sure it will be a lot of fun.

Re: Terribly disappointed by the ending :-( *spoiler*

I've never known Donaldson to bring any narrative to such a cheap end before. Everything always has consequences, and it always makes sense within the narrative. That the Elohim now suddenly are able to put the worm to sleep goes against *everything* that has gone before. I get the image of Donalds...

Nope, I'm going to have to disagree with you there.

I enjoyed the fact that Jeremiah still behaved like a teenage kid. He was easily cowed, easily annoyed, random and quick to anger. On the other hand he wanted to explore his limitations, eager to please, and eager to show off. Despite the lost opportunities I thought were there for his character, he...

I read your old post arenn, it echoes my sentiments. starkllr, you also make a lot of points I agree with. The 'gratuitous use of teleportation' is possibly the most egregious of these in my opinion, but there are obviously others. I will probably never re-read the Last Chronicles, but I will certai...
