What makes the books an interesting read is the style it's written in. Each chapter is simply named after a character and is a first person account of that character. This method has significant ramifications as the story progresses and this is why: Whenever a character interacts with another charac...

...but surely all these hazards you bring up relating to the Ward are simply related to the language being used. The language of the land (English) is very imprecise but it's conceivable to have a language (spoken or thought) which is extremely precise, in which the Ward's full power could be used.

The One Tree? That's not Covenant on the cover! It's the two main Elohim (forgot their names). I'm looking at the Del Ray paperback editions: Lord Foul's Bane: Bridge and Ward in Kiril Threndor (from memory) The Illearth War: Forestal and Hile Troy (I think) The Power that Preserves: Scene at the Co...

I don't think it's the pronunciation as much as the syllable stress. Nick obviously stresses the last syllable while I believe Angus stresses the second with "pyle" being two syllables.

Shippey is the premier Tolkien scholar. He's written a couple books about him. He was Tolkien's successor at Leeds University I believe. Yes, of course he had good things to say.

It feels so dynamic but I think there's some scripting going on here. In Episode 1, Julie was quick (a little TOO quick) to point out that since TCs nerves were dead he wouldn't be able to make a good grimace with his face. This is just TOO intelligent a comment from Julie. I think their boyfriends ...

In case some of you don't read the Dissection forum, here's a thread to a very odd show based on the book!

I'm pretty sure that Leprosy in itself is NOT contagious. The thing is that people, because of Leprosy, usually contract other diseases, which may themselves be contagious.

... take a look at how many serial killers are male, or which gender commits most crimes
.

nah, women commit 10 times the number of crimes. Thing is that no one expects them so they get away with it ALL the time.:)

Shippey and Donaldson

There are couple of references to Donaldson in Shippey's latest Tolkien book. I was impressed.

I don't think I've ever thought about music while reading a book unless there was actual music mentioned. The movies in my head are void of music.

Have you read Crossing the Gap?

I share the views of that author with regards to the various story topics including the Angus vs Nick comparison. She's much more eloquent than I.

"unable to complete his revenge"? Well, that's an understatement:)

Sorus didn't get fed up with the Amion over time - she FINALLY found an opportunity to escape. That was ALWAYS on her mind.
