Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre'. Also, Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights' is a work of pure genius. Shame she died so young - who knows what else she could have given to the world....

The best adaptation (forget Hollywood fluff!) is the French version with gerard depardieu (sorry if that's spelt wrong). Wonderful stuff.

I just LOVE Jane Asuten. She was such a intelligent and witty woman - this is obvious from her books. My favourite is Pride and Prejudice - I've read it hundreds of times! Closely followed by Persuasion - the BBC adaptation some years ago with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root was such so beautifully don...

well i suppose Sean Bean has the right 'look' - gritty and acerbic. I know I definitely would NOT want a pretty boy like Tom Cruise to play TC. I reckon the accent could be worked on.
