Okay, so Amok did some searching around, saw what he saw, and decided to return to Revelstone and make himself available. DHBWM, but wouldn't Amok also have seen Lord Foul's preps for war and his army on the march, and taken that into account? Be that as it may, I still think Kevin's plan was flawed...

I think it's no more complicated than this: Amok was "programmed" to appear when the krill was fully activated. He was "programmed" to grant access to the EarthBlood (and explain its powers and use) to one who named it rightly. The conditions were met, Kevin's "interlocks&qu...

I likethe Theroy that the Giants were present in the construction..I'd imagine that it was Damelon who put the door there, or got the Giants to do it, and they named it after him. Amok being a one time offer makes sense; for if the New Lords were ready for the seventh Ward, then they'd only need Am...

I had wondered about that myself. Is it stated that once Damelon's Door was opened, it would automatically shut again? I figured Amok's unlocking was also a one-time-only phenomenon as well. If the tests were passed and the Lords were ready to be granted access to the EarthBlood, then presumably the...

Happened to me this morning, in the "Covenants life pre summoning, and the history of The Land" thread in the TC Discussion forum.

Before I realized it, I had duplicated my post 3 times. I can't delete the extras, either!

Let me chime in at this point with a little theory that occurred to me years ago. So far I'd not tried to come up with a rigorous, consistent Covenant/Land chronology, nor have I studied Freudian (or any other) psychology formally. But reading the history of the Land as an analogy for Covenant's own...

Vol 12, as V.F. said, is full of quite interesting stuff, including also some late essays that explain such matters as Glorfindel, Cirdan, the early mutually beneficial relationships b/t Dwarves & Men in the 1st Age. There are several overlapping versions of a First Age Tale of Years. Also, ther...

Art's mother had died before he could consciously remember her, if I understood correctly. AAMOF IIRC so had his father, tho I don't recall any indication whether they died together. Art was being raised by his older brother, Ben. Therefore if "Mag" 'was in fact' Art's mother, she could be...

Sincerely sorry about that. I thought my original title was unobvious enough to constitute a teaser, not a spoiler. Furthermore, I thought I was just expounding on my particular theory, not Revealed Truth (something you seldom get from Wolfe)! I'll fix this (I hope) & be more careful in the futu...

When I first read Shadow back in the mid '80's, I was listening rather obsessively to "Comfortably Numb" on a borrowed copy of Pink Floyd's The Wall on vinyl. Ever since, I visualize Severian leaving the Citadel and walking the streets of Nessus, & riding the boat on the river, wheneve...

TWK: “…You’re Dead, You Know” (SPOILERS)

This is an interpretation of Able’s sojourn in the Seven Worlds as the death of one adolescent boy who’s met with an unexplained fatal accident. On the physical level, it could be interpreted as his delirium as his mental processes fade out, rather as the “lights” and “tunnels” reported in near-deat...

I definitely think Braitherealm was inserted for more than just an excuse to bring in Nom. SRD had to keep Covenant in contact with other forms of power at regular intervals throughout the 2Chron so that we (and the characters) could learn more about how TC reacts to power and so he can figure out ...

This is a very intersting episode, because in conjunction with certain other things that occur at the beginning of The Knight , & at the end of The Wizard , it suggests among other things that the Seven Worlds have something very like the New Sun's Corridors of Time, thru which Able, and possibl...

I second: the Pseudo Echo version of "Funkytown". I used to drive around the Washington Beltway (when the traffic was moving, which in those days it often was.) grooving to it. I categorized it as great driving music. Also IMO Van Halen did great covers. Not only will I second "You Re...

When I broke up with my 1st ex-fiance in the late '80's, it was from my POV a "good" breakup (even tho I still miss her.) Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again" was current, & that became my anthem. ...And here I go again on my own Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known, Like a dri...

(tWK) Why Spiny Orange? (Or maybe Osage Orange?)

As Art/Able himself speculates, his entry into Aelfrice & the seven worlds seems to have commenced when he encountered a spiny orange tree and cut himself a walking stick with it. He still had it when he was brought to Parka, at which point it became his bow. It was said to be excellent for both...

Fiery Critters Coming from Mt Thunder?

It was my understanding that the terrible fiery threat in the far North, which Kastanessen was Appointed to patch, which it seems to be our consensus to equate with the " skurj ", was now threatening to escape and ravage the world (with Kassy's direction and connivance, presumably) not fro...
