This was definitely monumental, I think that in the larger scope, as both Malik and Cail have said, this is more about protecting freedom than protecting guns. There will still be waiting periods, still permits needed for concealed weapons, but i have always believed the country that takes away the ...

I don't understand the necessity. If it's forced it's not altruism, it's extortion. I should not be forced to pay for your food or shelter because you can't or won't work to provide for yourself. I keep hearing people tell me what I or we "should" do, and I have to ask, "says who&quo...

I still think that whatever arguments you make to rationalize abortion, you can't argue that adoption is the *better* option. It's just significantly harder. There is NO shortage in this country of people who want to adopt children. Of COURSE my mother sees plenty of unfit parents in the NICU. She ...

storm - poverty isn't fatal. many poor people go on to great things. it requires the parents to work hard, and that is a problem in today's quick fix society. an entire generation came through the depression. Some do, some don't. I speak from experience, most people where i grew up were poor...they...

1. I reckon that watcher would be me  , and as you noted, since fetal stem cell funding was disallowed, they found an alternative. Things like that happen sometimes. 2. If the 17 yr. old got knocked up because she got drunk, I still don't see this as any more of an excuse than if same 17 y...

Actually, Bush is the only president to have ever allocated federal funds to stem cell research. I don't understand why people say that he crippled it, when he's the only president in history to have spent a dime supporting it. Just not embryonic stem cell research. Considering your outspoken belie...

I wrestle with #4 quite a bit. Rape is non-consensual, so I have a hard time holding the line on abortion, but it's still murder, and there's still the adoption option. Storm, I think you're dead wrong on #1, and it would appear that with your response to #2 you're condoning murder for the sake of ...

One of my most favorite subjects to debate, nice thread idea Dreaming. 1. I want to start first with your last sentence on stem-cell research. I've had this argument on here with other members, they try to tell me that privately funded stem-cell research can succeed and all the bush administration d...

To add to what Cail said, the redistribution of wealth through excessive taxation is simply stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. To make matters worse, the taxes merely sustain these social programs that don't work, they aren't improving anything. All these "give aways" don't fos...

So the level of responsibilty = the level of pay? Tell that to those that serve in police, fire, and military. Tell that to pilots.. who by the way have seen their pay dropping like mad lately. Tell that to airline mechanics. I could pick out a few more but as you can see there are many different c...

but i don't want to spend 7 years in school to see my earning potential get cut in half on account of a change in public policy. Actually that would be typical if we werent all chained to the current system where the industry gets to set the price. Years ago when computers first came out, a compute...

I would also not be opposed to the dissolution of the insurance agency. But that's not going to happen, no way in hell. We also agree on basic services to the poorest sector. This issue is a conundrum for me, because i want to see people have basic healthcare, but i don't want to spend 7 years in s...

First thing is that you have to forget everything you know about the health care business. IOW, the insurance companies have to go. I understand what you're saying about Big Pharma, but if the system was revamped and all the guarantees removed, that would significantly change the dynamic between ph...

1. I'm not willing to give up any of my freedom, i'm busting my ass for my anesthesia degree so i don't have to worry about how i'm going to afford health care. My point was that some people think a society capable of providing healthcare to its people should do so because its "moral" and ...

That would require a very loose interpretation, and would open up the floodgates of what other things can promote the general welfare....Like everyone owning a Ferrari. OK, that's silly, but you get my point. No court has (or will) interpret the Preamble to mean that the government has to provide h...

So what would you suggest that will alleviate the pain now and prevent it from happening again? I'm honestly not sure to be honest. But a large part of this country makes under 30k a year, with food and gas going up so much, how can we actually stimulate the economy and prevent a depression. My fea...

Cail...the increase in gas price is fine if you are working at a job that makes enough income so its not an issue. But how about those of us that are college students. Those of us in health care get bent over when it comes to our clinical sites, i drive 180 miles a week just in my clinical commute....
