[quote="Damelon" Oh sure just tease us about Gardens of the Moon :)[/quote] It is good that you have a sense of humor. :) But you might note that I did not find the book all that impressive when I first read it. It was simply too complex. It was only after I finished the Deadhouse Gates th...

It is reasonable to assume that people that did not have access to the lore necessary would have to burn wood to warm themselves. Presumably this is one of the reasons the one forest was destroyed in the first place. (Although the most likely one is that it was simply destroyed to make way for farml...

After reading a few reviews at Amazon I also read Feist's Magician series. In my opinion it was fairly simplistic and rather standard fantasy fare. A nice tale and a good way to pass a few hours but nothing here to get excited about. I am currently reading the Summer Tree (The series is called the ...

The fire lions certainly seem like lava, but I do not think Mt. Thunder is an actual, active volcano. (Because an eruption would have destroyed all the ur-viles and cave-wights hiding in the catacombs.) Thus I conclude that the fire lions are a manifestation of the earthpower unique to Mt. Thunder. ...

The actual knowledge of white gold is probably quite harmless for a people that are incapable of making it so why hide it? The only person who could possibly have any advantage of the knowledge (LF) probably knows more about it than just about everybody anyway.

granted, that passage concerned places destroyed by Kevin, but Kevin's desecration seems to have destroyed enough trees for Caerroil Wildwood to take notice. they had to make up for what Kevin did before they could make up for those who came before. the new lords were obviously commited to the fore...

I have seen her books in the shops, but I did not even pick them up to look at them. (I just assumed that it was just another girl-fantasy-triology.) I checked the blurb on amazon and it looked a little more promising than that though. But still I do not think that I will buy it unless someone else ...

I have not read the books by Philip Pullman but I have seen them in the shop and have considered buying them. (With them I mean: The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and the Amber Spyglass.)

But has anybody read any of Pullman's other work?

Re: The Dragonriders of Pern

Has anyone read Anne McCaffrey's series, the Dragonriders of Pern or the HarperHall of Pern? I just love those books! They're on the same shelf as TC and the Land. :) I have read most of the early Anne McCaffrey books. Including the Dragon-books up to "Masterharper" which I did not read. ...

Anyway you are right, I guess I do recommend Zelazny a lot. But I feel he is worth recommending.

Re: Hooray!!!!

I annoyed my school librarian into ordering Mordant's Need! Good for you, and even better for your school library. IMO the MN books are probably a lot easier for people that are only casually interested in fantasy novels to like than the TC books. They are easier to read, appears to be much more po...

-White Gold is not wild magic. It is a tool, possibly the only tool, that allows the wielder to access the wild magic that is "graven in every rock." (And - to make random, useless speculation - maybe white gold is the best tool because only it lets you use the wild magic in any wa...

The law was broken well before the Sunbane came into existence. Can you imagine how enticing that would be to someone? In the days after the Illearth War, wouldn't you have wanted to go to speak with the Ancient Dead of the Land? Yes, this is the point I wanted to make earlier. It would be possible...

That the dead only appeared in Andelain does not really answer the first question. For if the dead could be reached in Andelain why did not people go there for guidance?

Good piece. I know nothing about mental illness (no experience) but what I can see from your piece is that you place yourself absolutely in the 100% Unbeliever camp. I.e. you choose and explanation that is based on the fact that the Land is not actually real. I can see that kind of explanation easil...

How about trying something classic. A bit long, but you can probably adapt it. The Demiurge's Laugh IT was far in the sameness of the wood; I was running with joy on the Demon's trail, Though I knew what I hunted was no true god. It was just as the light was beginning to fail That I suddenly heard--...

I have never actually considered SRD to be the top author of catchy titles, but "This Day All Gods Die" is quite good. My favorite is "The Illearth War" though, it almost makes you want to read the book just to figure out what the title is all about. However I think Roger Zelazny...

I would say that there is quite a difference between Mordant and Amber. And even more so between the books in the two series. Basically the origin of Amber is discussed much more thoroughly in the last five books. (The Merlin books) But in any case shadows are not considered less real than Amber per...

I would go with the sandgorgon too. But we really know too little about the fire-lions to really make a good guess.
