The Great God's War is a much more accessible work than the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. Much more like Mordant's Need in that regard.

I guess the problem with upgrading security is that it might require some actual money. At least most of the certificates from trustworthy CA's usually cost money.

I see now that I may have been a bit optimistic about the release schedules of anything by Rothfuss when I started this thread, but the books are still very good. :)

A few years ago I sat down and read the entire Gap Cycle for the first time since I had read the books individually when they were first released in mmpb. The entire cycle was a lot better than I remembered.

I do not remember how many times I have re-read the chronicles. I would guess that it is something like four or five times. This is not including the last chronicles, which I have only read once. I am considering re-reading some, or all, of them again now. It is about time.

The great thing about the chronicles is that each time I read them I discover new and greater things about them. Details I missed, or just characters that I now suddenly understand a lot better.

If you have not already you should to read "Epic Fantasy in the Modern World - A few observations" by SRD. Quote: "Put simply, fantasy is a form of fiction in which the internal crises or conflicts or processes of the characters are dramatized as if they were external individuals or e...

There are a few places where time passes without anything much happening in both. There are one or more long stays in hospital in the Reed Stephens books, and there is a time in Forbidden Knowledge where the Captains Fancy is just travelling slowly while a lot of stuff happens onboard. But once they...

I always found it kind of funny that Mick would get shot in one of the books (The Man Who Risked His Partner from 1984) and would keep that wound until at least after the end of "The Man Who Fought Alone" from 1991. Then again I have never quite gotten around the fact that so little time p...

Hi everybody. Just a few things which I have heard which is different from some of the things said here: 1. As far as I can tell the perpetrator (Anders Behring Breivik) considers himself a christian. Kind of a crusader, in fact. 2. Last I heard he had NOT run out of ammunition when he was apprehend...

In my case it would not have been a case of probably, I think. I have always ended up re-reading the whole trilogy whenever I read a substantial part of one of the books.

This weekend I visited my local bookstory, intending to pick up my comics and see if something new had arrived. And it had! I don't like McKiernan's work myself, but apparently this trilogy was written to serve as an introduction to his proposed sequel to LotR when he did not get permission from the Tolkien estate to publish it.

I used to work with a man who had married a woman from Thailand. He said that in Asia the custom was for you to receive the gifts and then take them home and unwrap them in private so as to not offend the giver in any way. Anybody know if this is true?

Although I mostly agree with those who say that David Eddings' books has become too repetetive for their own good, I think it is worth noting that the first books (The Belgariad) predates most of the current deluge of standardized fantasy and I am willing to excuse it use of themes that have since b...
