Mine is Lord Mhoram, he plyed the "Gandalf" role but he lacked any pompousness and was the most noble character of all. And you have to respect someone with that amount of patience and understanding

Who's your Daddy?! 8O 8O
Well, I'm pretty hopeful he's not my Daddy (I can enter churches OK, for example). But he's the big daddy of evil.

... some bits trashed by Wayfriend ... E.g. most viewers of Lord of the Rings, who have never read the book, will forever wrongly think that it was Aragorn, rather than Gandalf, who devised the strategy to divert Sauron's attention by marching on the black gate, that Denethor was a villainous, good...

The best I've ever been forced to read is "To Kill a Mockingbird" at school. Can't think of a bad one I've been forced to read.

There is no definitive answer; in mordor probably Sauron, in The Land probably the Despiser. But anywhere else, my money is on Satan. Sauron and Foul are simply the top dogs in their own worlds. They don't cross into other worlds. Satan, for example, appears as the villain in various different genre...

I resented Linden Avery throughout most of the 2nd chronicles. Especially when she had a go at Covenants old friends! That was so out of order!

Hi Dragonlily. Yes the Many Coloured Land was a superb series with some great characters: Felice, Aitken Drum. I don't actually read as much now as I used too. However currently I'm reading Bruce Page's book, "Murdoch Archipelago". It is a fascinating and disturbing look into the career of...

I haven't read fantasy for a long while, but i remember liking Moorcock's books, Guy Gavriel Kay' Tapestry series, A Many Coloured Land by Julian May, Eddings, Brookes, Pratchett, Gaiman (Pratchett and Gaiman wrote "Good Omens" together, a very funny book!) Also I love some of Denis Wheatl...

It might work, perhaps, but (and i can only speak for myself here), I found the first chronicles to be the superior story. One of the reasons that I persevered with second was because, having read the first, I understood the travesty that the Sunbane (and the shockingly base behaviour of a once nobl...

It's like being asked to choose between caviar and champagne, BMW and Mercedes, Charlise Theron and Scarle...

How about Ang Lee as director? Famous for Couching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, he is a humane director who i think would deal with the weighty issues of TC very well. One query, will Linden Avery even be in this movie? I'd have thought that the span of the novels is to great to inclue her, a she only appe...

I vote for Power that preserves

The original 3 books of thee First chronicles are easily the best. Power That Preserves just clinches it, because it brings that trilogy (as it was) to climax and a conclusion, but Lord Foul's Bane and the Illearth War are very close behind.

It's been 24 years...

...but finally I've found a Thomas Covenant forum! I read The First Chronicles back in the summer of 1981 and was stunned by it. It was such a beautiful, awesome, yet very sad and tragic book; and i was an avid fan for many years. But then, through the 80's and 90's, lots of other fantasy fiction fl...
