ADWD should be out by the end of the year, I'm convinced of it. What a good week this is, a really nice man sold me a timeshare yesterday and today I have read this excellent news!

I don't plan on reading the 2nd Chronicles again, alas. I wasn't a fan of that particular book first time round, I endured it rather than enjoyed it. Ironically I might enjoy it more 20 years on, it's true, but I'd have to order it again as i lost my original books while at uni.

Reading Covenant 20 years on

I first read the Chronicles over 20 years ago and was an instant fan. There weren't any internet fan clubs in those days but I remember that a group of us used to discuss it at school, and i thought I knew the book back to front. I've recently started reading it again and, it's amazing, but there's ...

That's me as well Malinda. I was pretty devastated when Gandalf fell. I actuallyy could read on for a few days!

Thomas Covenant on Wikipedia

I am surprised that there is not a great deal about TC on Wikipedia, especially considering the reams that are written about LOTR. Given that anyone can edit this website, has no one here ever fancied summarising the TC franchise at length? (You can save local back ups to protect your work from dese...

THOOLAH seems a most worthy guild! If only it had been around 26 or 27 years ago, much disaster might have been averted!

Perhaps it does say something about us. But is a desire for accuracy so bad? Who would want to see a version of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar which reverses the characters of Brutus and Cassius? Who would like to see Star Wars remade, with the Emperor and Darth Vader shown as kindly rulers who are ove...

Frankly, I don't see any particular resemblance between Mhoram and Gandalf. Sure, they're both wizards (of a sort), and they're both 'Good Guys'. So is Harry Potter, but nobody thinks of him as a Gandalf figure. The absolutely crucial difference, to my mind, is that Mhoram is human, and we see much...

Wayfriend, I don't entirely agree. How can I put this? A movie version of a book, in my opinion, has some responsibility to the original. It shouldn't trivialise or radically alter the original tale or message. For example, imagine if "Churchill, The Hollywood Years" was not a spoof. Or, im...

who has the best ending battle? Tough one. Foul's battle with TC in PTP was the best fantasy battle I've ever read about. But I'd love to know more about the final battle between Sauron and Gil Galad and Elendil, I bet that was a cracker. As for Satan, I suppose the question is: Which battle are we...

... it delivers such a fantastic payoff. (It's a pity The White Gold Wielder couldn't receiprocate in this respect - I was expecting so much). Eh? Which White Gold Weilder did you read? It disappointed - But maybe i was expecting TOO much, after the heights of the 1st Chronicles it had a lot to liv...

[quote="High Lord Tolkien Foul , Satan and Sauron seem pretty close as far use of powers go. Manipulators all of them. Sauron and Foul both direct thier forces to engage in physical battles against enemies. Satan...what the hell does Satan do anyway? So based on what I know, Satan turns into a ...

Johannson. Sorry, that one's just too easy, couldn't resist responding. I would have agreed a month ago; but before you make a final judgement visit the Aeon Flux website! I'm not convinced that Donanldson is easier to follow that Tolkien, I found the second chronicles quite heavy going at times.

Burgs, i agree with what you have to say, but why does being a Gandalf character lessen Mhoram? Do you mean in the sense that it takes away his originality? For me, being put in the same bracket as Gandalf is the highest accolade any character can receive. Mhoram is a Gandalf character, but he's def...

Fellowship of the Ring. I first read it back in 1978. Fantasy was not the norm then, and this book completely swept me away. The chapter "shadow of the past" is the greatest chapter in fantasy i've ever read. I still remember the impact it had; there was so much at stake, the power of Saur...

The Illearth War is the most resplendent of the books, and very possibly the best of all. The only one to give it a run for it's money, in my opinion, is The Power That Preserves, but that's mainly because, after painting such a poignant picture of sorow and despair, it delivers such a fantastic pay...
