I'm about halfway into the first book of the series, and I'm really enjoying it. Writing a series with the same main characters is a huge improvement over the previous three books.

Just finished Elfstones of Shannara, and I gotta say, I enjoyed it as much as I did when I last read it, which was when it first came out. It's a really fun book. I've started Wishong, and I'm not so sure about it, lol. I read it a longass time ago, and don't remember dick about it. Elfstones rocked...

I finished Sword a couple days ago. I thought it was alright. It has some obvious connections to LotR, but I didn't find it as bad as it's reputation. Sauron never really appears in LotR, but I liked the final confrontation of the book. The last battle was really good, too. Reading Elfstones now, an...

Am most of the way through Running with the Demon , billed as the very first Shannara book, but actually bearing no relationship to the 'Sword' series at all in any meaningful sense. Who would have thought that Brooks could write in so much more of a hard-hitting fashion? This work is good, but set...

Just finished First King of Shannara. It was really good. Now I'm about to start one of the most vilified fantasy books of all time, lol. I wonder if it will be a big drop off in quality from First King. I haven't read it in a long time, but am looking forward to it.

I finished Mistress of the Empire a couple days a go. It was a great book, although it had a brutal start and took a long time to get going.

Now I'm reading Bearer of the Black Staff by Brooks. It's really good.

Connie Willis's time travel books are also in the alt history vein. Black Out/All Clear is an amazing pair of books. Doomsday is also great. To Say Nothing of the Dog kind of went over my head, lol. I would start with Black Out, it is really great.

It's probably helped that I've not gone into the exercise with terribly high expectations - but that having been said, the Elfstones has certainly not been a disappointment. I've got the Wishsong on order (from the library, I'm not so keen as yet as to be prepared to spring for it  ) and we sh...

I finished Daughter of the Empire yesterday. It was really great, although I could do with a little less ritual suicide in my life, lol. Yeesh, not my favorite parts to read. I do really like epic fantasy with a strong female lead, I have found, and Mara is a great character. I'm about to start Ser...

Midnight Tides is book 5? Oops, sorry, Reaper's Gale. :D I finished the Riftwar trilogy last week. It was really good, and improved with each books (particularly the characters). I thought about plowing on with Feist, but decided I wanted a break, so I'm reading the first Word and Void book by Terr...

The first two Kingkiller books were great, but I think I'm done with authors who can't publish on a schedule. There are just far too many good ones out there who can to waste any more of my time on the Martins and Rothfusses of the world.

The first season was alright, but I'm about 2 episodes into the second and I may not last much longer. It is bad. I think it's all new material, or maybe a hodge podge of random books. The problem with the trilogy is that it isn't really a trilogy. It's more like three standalone books as I recall, ...

I just started watching this and I'm about eight episodes in. It is trash, but my sort of trash. Elfstones was by far my favorite book in the series (that I read), and I think it was a good decision that they started there, and not with Sword. That said, I read the book right about when it came out,...

So...that's actually just the first book. It was split up at some point. Riftwar series is: Magician, Silverthorn, and A Darkness At Sethanon. They're good, I like them, but I prefer the concurrent Empire series with Janny Wurts. Happens at the same time as the Magician books, on the other side of ...
