The marriage did serve the function of having both TC and LA have their "own" white gold. Beforehand, TC had Joan's ring and Linden had Covenant's. When they exchanged rings, Joan's ring became Linden's "by right". I understand the reasoning, but I don't buy it. Just because Joa...

It seemed to be going so well, and then, like a US TV series running out of plot ideas - LA and TC get MARRIED?!!!? I suspected something along those lines would happen, since an early review talked about "Covenant and his wife" but it seemed completely out of character. Apart from that, a...

Will be setting my alarm an hour early tomorrow - the Kindle version should be downloadable by 5am EST I hope? Then can get a couple of hours of it under my belt before work.

The iPad may have to be left at home tomorrow, otherwise it will end up being an all day read-a-thon at the office.

Pre-ordering via Amazon will have it delivered to you on release day. Their customer-obsessive shipping practices may even land it on your porch a day or two early, just to make sure you are not left waiting for it. Alas, not for me. Living where I do, I would have to get it shipped to a US mailing...

This may well be the first time that I actually get the Kindle version rather than the paper copy of a newly published book, just to get it ASAP after publication.

Depressingly, it is being reported over at Westeros that the World of Ice and Fire book that was scheduled to be published this year has been pushed back until October 2014. So that leaves only the Dangerous Women anthology, plus any further chapters that GRRM decides to release, as new material to ...

It's interesting the way they've simplified the Tyrell family. Who was Cersei to be given to by Tywin in the books? I really can't remember, and I don't think it was the same Tyrell. When did Loras join the Kingsguard in the books? I know he was in it by the time Jaime got to King's Landing - was h...

As a moderator over on that board, I can say categorically that we will not. There is a graduated series of penalties for posters who repeatedly violate the posting rules that have been set, but 'not posting' is not something we are concerned about. Just happy to have as many fans reading the boards...

asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/forum/58-the-winds-of-winter/ I'm on that forum, too! It doesn't seem to run as smooth as KW, though. So many noobs coming in and leaving all the time. :P  That is the nature of the beast, given the interest in aSoIaF generated by the TV series. The moderators...

Over at Westeros, here is the forum that relates specifically to discussing the next book in the series, The Winds of Winter.

Warning - some of the thread titles on this forum may in themselves be considered spoilers -

There was indeed a chapter that was read at a con, but not has not been released on his website. It is from the viewpoint of the character you mention, and seems to happen very shortly after that of Victarion. Tyrion and Brown Benn Plumm are playing cyvasse, and bantering. towards the end of the exc...

Most of these questions are answered explicitly in the Lord of the Rings (the book). The only one that isn't is about the Ents. They certainly do not leave Middle-earth, they probably survive for a while longer, but without the Entwives, they will eventually die out. In the published letters of JRRT...

If anyone is still reading anything in this forum, a different sample chapter is up at GRRM's site. Now we have a chapter from Arianne, in which we learn of how she is being sent off by her father to meet with Aegon and Jon Connington, presumably after they (Aegon and JC) have contacted Dorne at the...

Re: Release date

Amazon (US) says Oct. 15 and 688 pages. Someone cut this down to the bone, I imagine. And here is the blurb from Amazon: "Compelled step by step to actions whose consequences they could neither see nor prevent, Thomas Covenant and Linden Avery have fought for what they love in the magical real...

Re: further updates on Martinworld

Further snippets of updates. The next Dunk and Egg short story, which was going to be included in an upcmoing anthology entitled "Dangerouos Women", has been postponed until after GRRM completes the next novel in the main series. The anthology is still going ahead. In order to fill his com...
