This book is exceptional, his writing is getting better(as you would expect) but his characterisation is fully 3D. I was surprised by the death toll, but at the same time not, its difficult to explain since I'm not an author (or writer of any level). Tehol and Bugg must be one of the best double act...

Bugger

I want to add why I think its the best, but this thread is not the place as spoilers would be required.

We need another option in the voting - Reapers Gale.

I completed it a couple of weeks ago and it wins hands down. Erikson's writing gets better and better.

Okay, I've been subscribed to this forum for a couple of months and can't believed I've not posted to this topic. SE totally rocks. so much so I have the 3 B&KB novellas and even ICE's NoK as well as the MBotF novels. I started with LOTR as the best, then SRD(though Gap made him No 1 in my eyes)...

This book is the smallest of the 3 - you might call it a novella-ette. Takes about an hour to read(including distractions from offspring) :( . Some chapters in the main Malazan storyline are bigger than this.

"Attention span of a gold fish" :D Imagine my surprise when I decided on a LOTR day, i.e. watch the EEs back to back, just to satisfy my need only to have my 2 youngest (9 & 6) sit there with me and watch it through its entirety. I didn't ask them if they wanted to they just appeared a...

Had to choose tBH as the story, world, character, etc seem to get better with each installment and as mentioned previously it starts to bring things together. That said, the "Chain of Dogs" arc was compelling. Judging by the speculation over at the other site Reapers Gale will be even bett...

Find out why I couldn't see the Erikson link - it was to do with using the "myth2" skin. I changed to "subsilver" and hey presto everything pops into view.

Steven Erikson (+ ICE)

Don't seem to find any topic on Malazan (shoot me down if I've got this wrong). Is anybody reading this series? What are your thoughts? Personally I feel this series is awesome. The sheer scope is incredible, the magic system is different to what I've read before, I could go on and on on how this se...

"Would I be interested in a sequel/s?" - well of course I would. "Should there be a sequel/s?" - probably not. The story feels complete to me. Sure there are a few threads that could be followed further but what story leaves you feeling that every thread has been concluded to you...

The new BSG is fast rising up my list of all time favourites, i.e. 2nd. But still has a way to go wrt B5. The only trouble with BSG is its fixed main story line, i.e. the search for Earth, whereas I feel B5 had more flexibility, feel free to severely beat me on this view. Enough griping, BSG is BRIL...

Surely it could be said that the amnion are simply amoral, and therefore lie outside human understanding. Its just that humans judge everything by human standards/morals, anything that doesn't fit is evil.

Just my $0.02 worth. Warden is the one true hero of the story. He assessed earth's need and decided, rightly, that Holt wasn't the way forward. He used his position, uncanny ability to judge people and the loyalty he so richly deserved to place the right people in the right place at the right time a...

Best Visual SciFi

Sorry if this topic has been covered before, just couldn't find an appropiate thread. Anyhow for me: B5. This has got to be the best SciFi series ever invented for TV, the plots, sub-plots and sub-sub-plots are amazing. The characterisation is brilliant. So much so that the Star Trek people tried to...
