Thanks Wayfriend, that makes perfect sense. Now you mention it there was a definite theme of heat involved with the Ravers in TWL - I had just assumed it was a "test of truth" but was more straightforward than that. With the intermingling of Stonedownor and Woodhelvenin lore it wouldn't ha...

Bit of a bump but am re-reading the 1st and 2nd Chronicles again and something struck me when reading the passage where Sunder touches Marid with his staff and it bursts into flames. Can't recall if this is addressed later in the book, but does that imply Sunder's staff is lomillialor High Wo...

Re: Lord Foul's Bane Chapters 7 & 8

I'm re-reading the Chronicles for the third time, and also picked up on this point noted by SleeplessOne: sorry to have resurrected this old thread, but after wading through 9 pages of intelligent and passionate debate I think I'm able to add something to the mix; TC's heinous act marks probably SRD...

Sunder: Linden? Chick only made you nuts man, she tried to possess you how many times? TC: Three and a half. Sunder: Three and a half? TC: Three and a half. Caamora party on Starfare's Gem, I get blitzed on diamondraught and pass out in Foodfendhall. Linden comes in and jumps all over me. Sunder: An...

Coming back to this thread after a couple of years, just wanted to develop the Clerks theme from earlier: Elohim 1: Which did you like better - The One Tree or White Gold Wielder? Elohim 2: The One Tree. Elohim 1: Blasphemy. Elohim 2: One Tree had the better ending. Vain gets his hand turned into wo...

Where to start? This passage from WGW always gets the tears going: When he looked up again, he was smiling with love - a smile which belonged to her and no one else. Tears streaked his face as he went to the door and closed it, shutting out the consequences of wild magic and venom. Then from the doo...

Just about to embark on a re-reading of the Chronicles so re-acquainting myself with this forum... From memory I would have to go with 'Garotting Deep' from TIW or 'Colossus' from TPTP, but would be prepared to be proved wrong by subsequent reading! Runnik's and Tull's tales are also up there, espec...

I would definitely say re-read the 2nd Chronicles, as has already been said there is so much going on in ROTE that won't truly make the impact it should without this. Also I prefer the 2nd Chronicles, on the whole, to the 1st - I know there has been much debate about this on here...the Sunbane is on...

The encounter with Hamako and the Waynhim is one of my favourite parts of TWL, and sets up the battle in the frozen North of WGW, again one of the most powerful scenes in the Chronicles.

I think Trevor and Loerya's daughter is called Yona, or something like that....

Not too obscure for you, Relayer! :) Your turn with the questions... Spot on. There are loads of other names in this part ('Blood-speed') of TWL. I wracked my brains trying to remember if these names had been mentioned at any previous point in the 1st Chronicles, and don't think they were, with the ...

Still can't think of the answer to that last one...determined not to look it up!

How about this:

What is the connection between the following names?

Riddenstretch
Emacrimma's Maw
Consecar Redoin

Slightly obscure, possibly....

Agree with that dlbpharmd, much of the historical aspects were told from slightly different viewpoints, or in fact forced me to re-evaluate what I thought I knew about the Land's history. The history of the Viles/Demondim/Demondim-spawn was particularly illuminating, and the story of the One Forest ...

"Coercri" , Covenant's caamora for the murdered Giants of the Grieve is an obvious one and much-quoted above, but no less powerful for that. It becomes all the more poignant in.... ...."The Banefire", Covenant trying to burn away Foul's venom despite Linden's misguided attempts ...

That seems quite likely, dukkha . It becomes clearer in Runes that anything related to Earthpower, presumably including the Law of the Old Lords, is antithetical to the Demondim-spawn. Witness the sickness of the Waynhim guarding the Staff of Law. So maybe the ur-viles couldn't get near it because t...
