I'm just really grateful to be getting a resolution to this story. The first book was intriguing but kind of sketchy. The War Within was epic and I was surprised at Donaldson's level of commitment to the story. Now that I know there will be a conclusion to the series I am planning on actually purcha...

Just finished Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro, and back to Cormac McCarthy, who I have read most of his books twice-ish by now. Currently back on the Outer Dark; the regional dialogue is freakishly well observed.

Many thanks to Steve for putting in all those long, grueling hours of rewriting to make TKG acceptable. It couldn't have been easy. I'm relieved and excited that we will all get to read the concluding volume, even if it's not exactly the way the author intended. I hope I'm not stating the bleeding ...

I'm giddy, too. .. now I just hope to see the series find an audience ... I've said it previously, but for some people the Great God's War might be the perfect gateway to Donaldson's work. I'm not suggesting it is his best work, but there is none of the sexual assault that makes The Chronicles of T...

Very happy for SRD, he's been through the wringer with wrapping up this series.

Looks as though The Killing God is still a year away, regardless this is great news and I can't wait to conclude the series.

.. and here's what we ended up getting: https://www.allenmorrisart.com/products/illearth I like this collection of paintings from Morris a bit better than those he did for Lord Foul's Bain, but I still have a few issues with what he's produced here, too. I kinda like the one that I assume is Amok. ...

The question is, should a political party be prepared to sacrifice everything it was founded to stand for in the pursuit of winning political power; or should it stick rigidly to its founding principles, even if doing so makes it virtually unelectable in the pertaining political climate in which it...

The first book of his that I read was Excession, and I thought that it was really very good. Since then, I have read some others, and I have come to think I stumbled upon his best book first. So I am not surprised at Fists comment - he really is hit-or-miss. (And I think it was Consider Phebas that...

I finished my first reading of The War Within late last month, and have to say that I enjoyed the development of the impulsive go-getter character Queen Estie very much. I feel like I know her pretty well right now, and have much empathy for her. I plan to re-read this book later over the summer. I...

Dear Allen Morris, for the Grim Oak Press's The Illearth War release, I nominate the following 10 scenes as being worthy of reproducing as artworks (the scenes of which are interspersed evenly throughout the book) * The extended Council of the Lords attempting to succour Dukkha Waynhim while Covenan...

I don't trust that book. Looks too much like Book of Mormon. Not that I have anything against those particular religionists, I just don't like the idea of giving Lord Foul's Bane a Bible feel to it. Thomas Covenant fought Lord Foul to preserve the flaws and inadequasies of what it means to be human...

I've seen an uncoloured version of Allen Morris's cover for the Illearth War and I am suddenly extremely tempted to splash out and get a copy when they become available - I'm not usually one to spend a whole heap on non-essential material stuff but damn if I don't love TIL; a quality release with il...

They will come to Kiril Threndor, and I will teach them things to darken their souls. It is fitting. There Kevin met and dared me in his despair. And I accepted. The fool! I could hardly speak the words for laughing.... Together we stood in Kiril Threndor, blind Kevin and I. Together we uttered the...

Lots of people wearing camp masks and a ton of gun violence.
Plenty of American navel-gazing.
Loved the graphic novel, but I don't think I'll be able to persist with the Lindelof show.

Religion in the Great God's War

As the son of a Missionary Man, Donaldson's relationship with religion has seemingly taken an ambivalent if not outright skeptical stance since early in his writing career. As evidenced in The War Within, Donaldson recognizes the power of Christian iconography, using some very pointed examples of Ch...

I wonder what Vince Gilligan will turn his hand to after El Camino given he has ceded control of Better Call Saul to Peter Gould.

Whatever it is I will give it my time as I find him to be a wonderful storyteller.

I loved the War Within. Will have to return with more detail when I have time.... Please do; happy to hear of another reader who enjoyed it. Very sad to hear that it has been selling so poorly, as it is a real page-turner without sacrificing the type of nuance and thoughtfulness that SRD excels at....

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books, as lurch mentioned the writing is quite pared down, and yet it is still unmistakably Donaldson. I actually just started a re-read a few days ago, very interesting reading the 1st volume again having some idea in advance where it is leading. Prince Bifalt is ...
