Indeed, with their implied etymologies being tachyon ( a faster than light particle [theoretical]) and ritarddo (itallian term used in music for "slow down".)

Does anyone care to discuss how they visualize this? For some reason, I imagine that SWMNBN is monochromatic, shades from gold to black. Not sure where that comes from. However, I can't quite shake the feeling that I have seen something like this before, this faces emerging-and-disappearing thing. ...

IO, Nick's pronunciation of Thermopyle is his way of mocking Angus. Your proper Greek pronunciation is correct. Thermo-pile, in my mind at least, always suggested a big steaming pile of poop. Finished my re-read of FB last night. My god I forgot how good this serious was, and I've consistently sung ...

In my edition:
Chapter 0 (unlabled) - pgs 1-10
Chapter 1 11-27
Chapter 2 28-42
Chapter 3 43-65 (with a Ancillary Documentation starting on 63.

See, I'm thinking that the AD's and the POV shifts can just be included in the chapter break-outs.

Does that look like it would work?

I thought the first chapter was Angus? Regardless, you make a very good point that this needs to be hammered out with thought WAY in advance of an inevitable train-wreck.

In case you didn't notice, I'm 100% with you on this disection. Let's do it.

IO, If you're starting with The Real Story my vote is to read a plot summary (and the Donaldson breakdon of TRS in the print I have) and move on. That may stir the Gap fan pot...but I went a couple years after reading TRS before going on to the next book because I hated it sooooo much. It would have...

Stonemaybe, surely your programmer friend can put your mind at ease. I'm actually jealous of your family living that close. Very cool science karma to me. Regarding safety, I've seen on TV and read here and there that while the ideas of micro-blackholes has a scary sound, the energies these guys are...

Sadly, this seems to be a sub-forum visited as much as the dungeons of Orison, dully lit by dilligent flame, yet infrequently tread. Not quite done with book 1, but I want to say... "wow." SRD has amazed me again. To hell with the darkness of TC and Gap, here's an amazing mystery/shakesear...

That's it... as soon as I finish Mordant's Need, it's time for a Gap re-re-re-read... damn these are good quotes.

"We've committed a crime against your soul. It's got to stop."

"I'm afraid that's illegal."

two paraphrased completely disjointed quotes.

Nice AV, and I agree. I think my earlier post about "honor" was really about that. There may be an evil political machine driving the whole thing, I'm not going there, but down on the ground where the arguments are made and the punishments are doled out.... real people... with real ethics ...

Well I'll wade in. Isn't it fairly clear that we human beings are the most intelligent species on the planet? I mean, I'll gladly defer that title to the species that can argue me down from that position. As far as the super-intelligent aliens go, we would have no way of answering that question woul...
