I've expressed to my husband that I want to go back home to my mom's for an extended vacation. I only get to see her once a year anyways, and with this happening, it'd be good to clear my head. But he went livid on me and now I probably won't be able to see my mom in the near future anytime soon. H...

Argh, the vague hints about speaking at a postgrad lecture/seminar thing a couple of months ago have come back. They're still interested in having me. I'm not ready. I need to learn more about Fatimid Egypt and make more progress on my re-translation of Hugo Falcandus. :( I'm afraid.

I remember not liking the two Crichtons when I saw it on tv, but I appreciated it much more during my rewatch of the whole series last year.

I'm now halfway through the second series. In some respects it's gone a bit Buffy, but it's still enjoyable. I was informed this morning that Syfy has made a US adaptation. I have to watch one episode just out of curiosity.

I'm losing patience with AC1. I've reached what seems to be the last round of assassinations, and it's becoming a real hassle to just walk around thanks to the combination of hair-triiger guards and a proliferation of those guys who shove you for no reason.

Apparently I'm seeing this on Saturday. There's some conflict within the group as to whether we should see King's Speech or Black Swan. The Black Swan lobby is larger, but the King's Speech lobby is more vocal.

Yep, lived my whole life in Nottinghamshire (not the city itself) until about four years ago, at which point I moved to Wales.

I went to school with someone who was so badly bullied that he never reached his twentieth birthday. He sat down one day to catch his breath, fell asleep, and never woke up. I think he died of a brain tumour. But then, that's only my opinion. That makes no sense. Being bullied doesn't cause brain t...

Hmm. The Jabberwock is only ever described as having "jaws that bite, claws that catch" and "eyes of flame ", and the entire poem is about a man sent out to slay it. That little evidence doesn't really suggest it's harmless. The quotation marks could make the statement true, or ...

On your side of the Atlantic these probably wouldn't be considered mountains at all, but the UK isn't really a mountainous country. onpilgrimage.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/Snowdonia.jpg A mountain party sounds cool !! he nudges right up against something that I'd really get excited about, and drops the ball at the last minute, often literally so. Literally? Really? Tim Burton's problem is that he can't keep hold of his balls? Sorry, I worded that badly. What I meant was sometimes literally at the last minu...

I've just bought Bad Religion 's album from last year, The Dissent of Man . First impressions are that it continues their downward slide. After Brett Gurewitz left in the mid-90s, each album was a step down from the last. Then, just as I thought it was all over for BR, Brett rejoined and they recor...
