I'm currently some 400 pages into Thomas Piketty's 1100 page Capital and Ideology. Is that the one that came out around 2014 and was released in the US as just "Capital?" Or was it the follow-up published a few years later? I got a few chapters into Capital and found it interesting, but.....

Let's see, it's been a while since I've been in here so I've got some catching up to do... I revisited both Titanfall 2 and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. Both are shorter games (can be finished in one evening if you push hard), both have engaging stories and environments but are massively different ...

Seems like there's not a lot of interest at the moment, so let's table this for now.

Oh yeah Peter, I have to resort to Google when they say things like "There's a spade around here somewhere" and I look for an hour without finding the damn thing. Searches in this game are brutal.

I'm really enjoying your summaries here. The only Hugo I've read is Les Miserables, but I'm thinking I need to add this to my list.

OK, y'all convinced me and I picked up the base game on Saturday. Between that afternoon and yesterday, I put in 11 hours. The main world has really just opened up; I'm not locked up anywhere, I've got a horse, a sword, and some old smelly clothes, and I was quite pleased with myself the first time ...

Colossal (2016)

Finally got around to seeing this last night, and wow... That was unexpected! I quite enjoyed it though; if you haven't seen it, Anne Hatheway plays an alcoholic whose self-destructive tendencies are externalized in the form of a giant monster rampaging through Seoul. I won't go into detail about th...

The Dog Stars by Peter Heller. A post apocalyptic story where most of the population has been killed by a mutated flu virus. It's an odd book to read but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I read that for a book club around 6 years ago and loved it, but only earlier this year returned to him for The River . ...

I took a break from Heinlein to read If Chins Could Kill, followed by another chapter of this Jefferson biography I've been reading for ten years, and last night I started Dr Sleep. I've read enough King to know there are good ones and bad ones, and 50 pages in I can tell this is a good one.

Would you be comfortable with a compendium of Amazon wishlis

Would people be comfortable posting links to Amazon Wishlists of books? If so, we could keep a compendium of such links, and every now and then a book might show up for you. If you haven't used them before, it doesn't post personal information online: just a list of items you would like to receive. ...

Yesterday I tried a multi-player run of Bob's Mods on Factorio... It addes a LOT of minerals, and very much complicates the crafting tree. Every time we researched a new item, the result was "OK, it needs these 3 new resources... Wait, each one of those requires 5 steps to and 4 OTHER resources...

Nothing new, so I'm trying to finish off some of the ones I started and didn't finish. Right now that means Heinlein's I Will Fear No Evil, which is... odd.

It depends on the book. The publisher has to enable it for the title.

You can only lend one copy at a time, and I believe it's for a limited time. I've never actually done it; I tried it once but it was so difficult I gave up. Maybe it's better now.

Re: Something!

the question simply has no answer . That the Universe simply 'is'. [get used to it!] Well, yeah. Science can tell you what things are and how they work, but if you're looking for a meaning or a reason for it all, that's inherently unanswerable. It doesn't stop people from trying, of course, but the...

As in, I have 30k raw plants, and not enough meat lol. This time though I'm trying to go bigger on ranching, so I've got 11 yaks, and I'm tryin...

I gave in and sprang for the DLC on Rimworld yesterday. Ah, my little drug dealers, how I've missed you. I have not yet started harvesting organs in my current colony, but... The Nobles from the DLC send around a "tax collector" twice a year, so I need to expand my prison to hold my "...
