Cov's Bane, from his perspective would actually be the White Gold and the people's need for him to be their savior.

Dune is my all-time favorite book-the first 2/3 of it are as good as it gets for me. Personally, I'm terrified of what Berg will do. I liked Hancock, there was some depth there that, while not quite fitting the film, shows that Berg has that "deeper imagination" that making a film like Dun...

LOTR Was Said to be Unfilmable...

LOTR was said to be unfilmable, and while the movies aren't quite the same as the book, they do stay pretty faithful. Covenant could be looked at in the same way: 1- Cov's a wretch all through the whole first trilogy and really doesn't grow. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that the qualities built ...

I always took it to mean Lord Foul's Message, his Bane is his power over the Lords in that even if they complete the mission, he still will win. Let me throw this out there, seriously, What if the titles were changed: The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant 1- The Unbeliever's Bane 2- The High Lord's Bane...

Yeah, but if one of the Lords knows enough about the stone to say that it would not suffice alone, wouldn't that knowledge make the threat very potent to the Lords?

For the reader though, not so much. I see your point.

Gilden Fire is good, but a little dull, and the Haruchai background and telepathy are the only things I enjoyed about it.

I believe that including Koric's POV would change much more than any of us understand as far as the view of the 1st Chrons as a whole.

What I liked about having Manethrall Rue mention the Giant-Raver was that it helped create a great sense of dread and anticipation about the looming war. Dread that a Giant could be possessed by a Raver; and anticipation over how the Lords and Troy would deal with such a being armed with the power ...

New Again.

Hello all. I've been absent from the sight for about a year and a half. Was only active for a couple months 2 years ago. Whenever I get back into the books, I always get charged emotionally and intellectually and look for others with like "charge". :) I absolutely love the books, though I ...

I don't know that there is any deep meaning attached to Susie, the one-armed trucker, or any of that. I think it is meant to play out as a somewhat surreal night out that screws with his definitions of "real" and "dream". TC struggles with the reality of the Land. To have a woma...

Raving Giant.

I know one of the unwritten rules here is that you don't question SRD's choices in his writings, but this is probably my most emotional disappointment and I'm just wondering if anyone else had felt the same way: I was devastated when we learned from Manthrall Rue that a Giant was Raving in IW. I was...

What's a Bane?

I was just thinking about the title: Lord Foul's Bane.

If I've never read the book, and I'm not a fan of fantasy or good with words...I really wouldn't know what a bane was.

So, what really is a Bane?

I see SRD meaning it as: power, evil warning, or dire weight on shoulders...

I actually, in my mind, aka visually, love that scene, absolutely deep, dark, poignant, and amazing.

But sick, too.

Susie Thurston and Her Husband

Can anyone clear up the meaning of the bar scene in the beginning of IW as far as Susie Thurston and her husband are concerned:

The Sign hilighted (contrasting Beware from LFB),
Her song,
Her husband,

I'm confused.

Help!?

5 years later!!!

Pietten is a character that makes my heart leap...

...but only because of what SRD could have done with him, not what he became.

I always wished Triock's role in PTP was given to Pietten, I think it would have been so much more interesting.

Really? I wouldn't expect fanbots to lambast someone that tells the truth about their beloved series. :p Despite the truth, I love the Chrons. Take Mhoram, why is he so loved? Because of the decisions he makes and his stand. But also, he's an archetype, like Gandalf and Obi-wan, so the reader can au...
