We live in a Christian philosophy society as far as familiarity goes: most people will expect and love Christian concepts like a savior, sacrifice, love, redemption, unwanting hero (Moses and a couple others), etc. The characters in Chrons to me are only two dimensional, which is better than Tolkien...

Yeah they are.

Except, the Old Lords didn't have the mind-meld, which I guess does leave it up to the n00bs to learn, so that could explain why they didn't perceive Elena's issues through it.

Covenant walks into a bar...

...And then the stars swarmed above, and the only thing that the bartender was sure he could see was a single red welt, clear and deadly, transfixing Covenant's forehead like a spear.

Maybe this is a very obvious point, but I always saw Existentialist, Eastern, and Christian philosphies underlying the story. More particularly, Tolkein: The Demondim and the Ravers are like the Maiar, the lower angels, spiritual beings who can manifest in physical bodies, on and on.

I really disliked Triock. He did do heroic things, he didn't break the Oath. He raised Elena in the face of Lena's sick devotion to Cov...honerable man. But, his position in PTP wasn't convincing to me, there really wasn't enough time spent on developing his character in LFB for him to play such an ...

Same to you. I joined 1 1/2 yrs ago and haven't been active for about a year...just started on 1st tril again...got back into it. As far as Elena: I see that incest is a constant in antiquitus fantasy, which could be one reason SRD had Elena so hot for Cov, but SRD said that it was merely a way to s...

Fault is the wrong word. Responsibility can be deduced by following the crumbs...backwards. I'm just looking to tie in all the loose threads I see in the first tril. K. If Cov rapes the Land in raping Lena, and then the thing with Elena stretches the middle...is there a third scene that would finish...

Re: I Actually *Like* TC

Yeah, I actually *like* the so-and-so. Does that make me weird? I know a lot of readers loathe Thomas Covenant, even if they love the Land and the other characters -- they like the book despite the main character. I can't stand him as he's actually written...I think I kind of unwoosified him somewh...

Another Freaking Elena/Cov Topic...

Yep. I'm gonna start another one cause the others never really answered th logical cusp of the issue. Maybe I missed the right post, but I looked for a while. So here my goes: If Cov, once having learned that E was his daughter, refused his natural attraction to this older, beautiful, stronger, char...

Re: Just finished LFB for the first time

So does anyone else find TC annoying and deserving of a swift kick in the pants? Snap out of it and fight ya sissy. The whole "woah is me" BS starts to drive me nuts after awhile. You can see his potential but at the same time he's so undeserving. Brace yourself. Yes. Cov is a sniveling w...

Personally, I don't think a script that stays true to the books could work at this point without Crowe...he would bring strength, his name, and a humanist view of TC to the role...so unless someone would rewrite TC to be more human and have something the audience can relate to and hope in within him...

Mhoram is soo great because the reader needs a hero...and even in LFB you could sense that M was gonna slowly become Big M over the course of the trilogy...FF could have been, but SRD took him in a nother direction (off the face of the planet for one book)...Triock kindof just decided to try to be.....
