Personally, I think SRD's metaphors are a little confused here. He equates Worm with death/entropy, but then he says it can break the Arch of Time, rather than destroy the world. These aren't exactly the same thing. While destroying the Arch would destroy the world, this truism doesn't hold in the ...

For anyone who understands a bit of Swedish, I'd highly recommend "Asken Yggdrasil" as a great introduction to these topics in general. Alf Henrikson was a real master in making complex things in history accessible and enjoyable. Maybe a tendency to oversimplify sometimes though. :)

There have been some interesting experiments before with Foul's "eyes like fangs" - but you've nailed it here! I'm not famliar enough with his pecs to comment on those, though. :) No time for any type of research right now - but just off the top of my head: krake > kräk > kreatur? (Remembe...

Hmm, looking at it from his own perspective undead zombie teeth would probably help Örxx with his Swedish pronunciation, and possibly with expressing his Urd, too. :)

Aye, illustrating the Kharkanas trilogy would be a challenge for this artist, by the looks of it. Though apart from that, it's certainly worthy of some digging. ;)

Aye, Trull was more of the Errant's nudge. And maybe one of the very few "pointless" deaths in the whole series. Some say he had to die because his story was finished (later there seem to have been hints that this was SE's own reasoning behind it.) Some people argue that since the MBotF i...

Some of the quote-fu masters over at Malazanempire may say differently, but surely it must be one of the earliest clear hints. :)

Agreed! To me, the Gap is SRD's all time high (thus far). It gave me a total paradigm shift in more ways than one. And, oddly enough, that's probably why I have never reread it. Gonna try to dare myself to do it, possibly after my first full Malazan reread - have gotten up to Kruppe at his finest in...

I've just started these on the recommendation of the GF. Not bad so far, although you can tell they're translated. Kinda sad that he died before any of them were published. Larsson has some ideosyncrasies (sp?) that are a bit weird - every apartment the main characters live in, seem to be given exa...

And wasn't the sword initially intended for Hannan Mosag, who seems much more like a "bad guy" than Rhulad? Possibly, he was aiming to become a very willing champion and use that cause for his own ends.

With the risk of going a bit off-topic here: in DoD, when the weird stuff happens to Sweetest Sufferance in the Wastelands (trying to stay away from clear spoiler territory here), Precious Thimble (or someone else?) says something along the lines of "he comes from a world where every god is a s...

Pertaining to the end of the story: What about the halting of the Jade Strangers? Isn't that an act of compassion (not of Tavore's calibre, but still) that someone like Foul would be unable of? Or can it be read as that Kaminsod isn't yet ready to handle all those voices and is just as happy to turn...
