Thanks. Very careful not to visit before I'd finished TLD. Paranoid about spoilers after nearly 30 years of reading the Chronicles!

I liked Jehannum's hypnotically seductive possession of Jeremiah. And also that Jehannum didn't suffer the fate of his brothers; he's been my online alter ego since 1988 (computer science student)!

Clues in the glossary?

Reading through the glossary of AATE I came across a couple of things that stuck out. For example: quellvisk : a kind of monster, now apparently extinct It's the 'apparently' that's interesting. I wonder if this gives a hint at the final book. Also curious was the entry for ur-viles: "Demondim-...

Soon to be the white gold wielder!

Wedding on September 19th. Plain bands of white gold for me and my fiancee, of course!

An interesting word, no doubt, and condign for SRD I agree.

Interesting that it's one of the few words that has not been converted to an "-or" ending in America.

I just wish I could break the association with high camp whenever I read it!

Roger's glamour

Whenever I read about Roger's 'glamour' I get this vision of him in a full-length sequinned dress.

I always liked 'incondign' from the First Chronicles. In the stillness, Caerroil Wildwood lifted his gnarled scepter. "No," he trilled, "I cannot permit this. It is a breaking of Law. And you forget the price that is owed to me. Perhaps when you have gained an incondign mastery over t...

I struck up a conversation with an English teacher on a train once. I was reading Iain Banks. I mentioned Donaldson and all she would say was, "I don't like him!"

When I asked her why she just repeated the same thing, so I thought it best not to press it!

Lego cross-promotion tie-in?

What are the chances of a Lego Revelstone and Mt Thunder Special Editions to tie in with Jeremiah's creations? Can you imagine the little Lego Haruchai and Cavewight characters with painted-on faces?

Will samadhi Sheol return in some way?

Have we really seen the last of it? Will its torn remnants return in Fatal Revenant, or have they already in Runes as one of Anele's possessors?

SRD's attitude toward the Haruchai.

In the Last Chronicles, he seems to be slagging the Haruchai off more: their inflexibility, their incompetence in anything but physical combat. Does anyone else feel this?

My favourite passage is, I think, Mhoram's description of the birth of the Ravers. Puts a chill up and down my spine.

I agree with variol; I always thought samadhi seemed to get the more prestigious jobs. Turiya and Jehannum I saw as equivalent to each other, but Sheol definitely seemed to have the edge.

To Live is to Die - Metallica quote SRD

Anyone noticed the quote from TCs in Cliff Burton's lyric for the above song?

These are the pale deaths that men miscall their lives.

It made me physically jump (and that's the best way to jump) when I first heard this in '88.

I agree with you, Zephalephelah (except about the God bit). It's hard not to... but the view you expressed is, at most, one half of the truth. Anyone who cared to could give you an equal number of situations demonstrating 'goodness' that could balance the equation. It's wrong to think that the world...
