I'm surprised danlo hasn't been in here yet to tell about how he identified so much with Covenant that he considered cutting off his fingers. 8O (True story. He's told it here on the Watch before.) That is just too much - I don't believe even Donaldson would approve of that much identification; how...

HOB, I don't know if this is easily done or not, but would it be possible to do this picture with the girl having freckles and slightly redder hair and could the frown be lifted ever so slightly. I have no idea if these things can be done at the click of a mouse or whether they take hours of work - ...

There is a problem here Thor, in that the original premise is that the only way to hurt someone who has lost 'everything' etc... The emphasis here is on the 'everything' and few of us can meet this criteria. But I do know where you are coming from with the question, even though my own answer to the ...

I believe in TWL in refference to the bloodguards vow and earthpower it says words to the effect that earthpower took thier vow and turned it into something that they had not intended it to be, but be that as it may.... agreed, we are off topic. Undoubtedly Kasreyns power was a form of coercion comp...

Well, the " Haruchai as Bloodguard" are certainly what pertains if the question is about the defense of Revelstone in the First Chronicles. I think it's open to interpretation whether or not the Haruchai in general partake of Earthpower. The author would tell you that they do, I think. (A...

I think it was more than this Thor - without rain and fertility the continued existence of the people in the Land would be untenable. Donaldson HAD to introduce some way that the continued existance of the people would be believable, hence he gave rain and fertility - but in a distorted way that wou...

Sorry Wayfriend - can't agree that the Haruchai are beings that 'partake of earthpower'. The Bloodguards vow certainly - the Haruchai as Bloodguard, possibly, but the Haruchai as inhabitants of the Westron Mountains, no. They are beyond the reach of earthpower in thier homeland and are not touched b...

Just re-read 'the sword of shannara' by terry brooks. my god - how did he get away with it! it's lord of the rings without the long words. still enjoyed it though. don't know whether to be pissed at such a bald faced plagerism or to laugh at the cheek of it and take my hat of to him for providing to...

I agree. This was a scource of confusion to me as well. It seems to me that we have two 'creation myths' running side by side ie the creator and his children and lord foul looking over his shoulder as one, and the worm of the worlds end/nicor story as the other, and both at different points in the s...

I was tempted to say he was 8 inches tall with a purple head but that would just be crude. No - he was just normal height i.e. the same height as whoever was reading about him and Orlion - no way did vain 'crouch' - that was not his nature at all (though I fully admit he did stand with his knees sli...

Agree with WF and HLT. The Haruchai were always very susceptible to coercion, and the Illearth Stone was put into use against the citizens of Revelstone in that manner. Imagine for a moment, nearly 500 Bloodguard under the control of Satansfist, inside the gates of Revelstone, wiping out every man,...

Yes, the Gap is very, very good - but you have to be prepared for it to lack the cheeriness of Covenant. It doesn't have the warm fuzzy bits. It's an excellent series, but it is unrelentingly bleak in a way that Covenant won't prepare you for. The first book is quite different to the rest of the se...

Just been and checked out Warmark's link above and while it's definitely good it's very fiddley detail. What we are after here is grand sweeping gesture that will take our breath away (as it did to inhabitants of the Land), not watchmakers drawings. C'mon Blackhawk - do your stuff! :D
