It's recently been announced that Ron Howard will be directing an adaptation of The Dark Tower, comprising of three feature films and two television series to bridge the gaps between them. If this cross-media film/television adaptation is successful, it may be worth considering a similar approach fo...

That reminds me: is it possible that the little girl Covenant saved from the rattlesnake in TPTP grew up to be Sandy Eastwood, Jeremiah's babysitter? This idea just popped into my head one day. There's no support for it at all, except that both girls lived in the same town and were born around the s...

I wonder what happened to the jheherrin after the destruction of Foul's Creche? ‘With a blast that jolted the Sea, the whole centre of the promontory exploded into the air. In a rain of boulders, Creche fragments as large as homes, villages, the wedge split open from tip to base. Accompanied by cata...

The actor cast as Thomas Covenant would most likely need to be a newcomer; someone we have never even heard of. An A-lister like Christian Bale or Daniel Day-Lewis would be great if they were only making ONE film, but I imagine the producers would have some trouble getting a big Hollywood star to si...

What I was curious about in this chapter was what role do these Timewarden memories Covenant reels for us have for the rest of the book. Will he remember them or were they simply for our knowledge? Even if Covenant loses all of the memories, those that we've glimpsed in the first chapter may still ...

And Solar...that was a very interesting observation...for a number of reasons, it increased both my respect for and concern about the Insequent. [SRD says you're wrong about the "merging" thing, but that's a quibble...I'm having fun pondering LF as Guardian, yet trying to break the Arch.]...

My Great Aunt has a letter form Tolkien where he answers her questions about whether or not Balrogs literally have wings. She let me read it on the condition that if I tell anyone she cuts me out of her *considerable* will. So, until she passes away I keep my mouth shut. Wow... it must be pretty am...

That would mean that Linden would place the first Guardian, the one that the Theomach eventually defeated. It could even be Findail. The blossoming of the Staff might free him to some extent, so that he would be able to protect the Tree. Perhaps that was the ultimate objective of Findail's Appointm...

I submitted a question to the GI, and SRD sent me a private response. His answer was RAFO, and he said that 'RAFO' was more of a spoiler than he was willing to make public (hence his private reply). So now I'm stuck with a vague spoiler that nobody knows about but me, and I can't tell anyone about i...

Regarding the original question of the two Staffs being the same: I have a theory (first posted here ) that could make it work. Linden travels back in time, to long before the era of the First Chronicles. She plants the her Staff of Law in the ground, and it takes root and grows, like the Glastonbur...

Cillian Murphy could play Thomas Covenant.

He's like Gary Oldman or Johnny Depp... his range is incredible. There is no character he couldn't play convincingly.

Another side of the Guardian's protection is that you actually need to get someone else to beat him for you. Anyone who defeats the Guardian, it seems, automatically becomes merged with him. I don't imagine Lord Foul would want to do that to himself, hence his requirement for pawns...

I don't think Lord Four's obsession with perfection is anything to do with him being victimised... I think it's more likely that he loathes the imperfection of the Land's universe, so he made Foul's Creche as perfect as it could physically be. If you want an analogy, imagine a long-term prisoner who...

Wasn't the original guardian an Elohim who was appointed by his people to protect the tree? The One Tree seems like the sort of thing they'd be concerned about protecting anyway, considering its connection to the Worm.

There are some problems to this theory, most significantly the facts that Linden's Staff is black and was made from Vain and Findail, and that Berek's Staff is brown and was cut from the One Tree. The only way I could see Linden's Staff turning out to be Berek's Staff is if Linden travels back in ti...

The Temeraire adaptation wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened. HBO are currently working on a series based on A Song of Ice and Fire (which I haven't read, though I do hope it all pans out).
