I liked R.A. Salvatore's first trilogy, but I felt he got a bit repetitive down the road. Same with Weis and Hickman's Dragonlance books. I will brook no criticism of Weis & Hickman Dragonlance books! They were my gateway drug. Plus every single other Dragonlance book not written but that duo w...

Nothing better than a new SRD novel under my Christmas tree!

I've found I get books sooner if I don't pre-order them. I buy them the day of release (or ASAP) at B&N. When I get it into the car, I crack the pages and smell the new-book-smell. I agree in prinicple but I have had so many bad experiences with the chain bookstore where I live, I have switched...

I finished The Heart of What Was Lost and The Witchwood Crown the other day. That's over 1000 pages of Tad Williams. (whew!)

Now working on Age of Swords by Michael J. Sullivan. That's book two of his new series that started with Age of Myth from last year.

Who has pre-ordered?

I'm not going to read any of the spoiler-laden posts in this forum, because I do not want to know anything before I crack my copy of Seventh Decimate. I am planning to buy the hardcover when it goes on sale, and save it until Christmas morning as a present to myself. I've done this before and really...

Hang on. NO ONE in the Land can defeat Foul. That's the whole premise of the story. Fault Kevin for other things. But not for being unable to defeat the Despiser. So there's no statement about the adequacy of lore here. Or of wisdom. Kevin damned himself by his choices, not by his eficacy. Mhoram w...

I feel that one of the "points" SRD makes with Kevin is that lore/magic/knowledge isn't sufficient against despair. Kevin has all the lore, and it's useless against Foul. Whereas by Mhoram's time the lore knowledge is much reduced among the lords, but they more than make up for that in oth...

A resurrected, undead Kevin with mastery of all seven wards would clean Mhoram's clock IMO. That was also Mhoram's opinion. In Ch.26 of TIW, he explains to Hile Troy the reasons why he and Calindrill were unable to help her against Kevin in the fight that was still raging at that moment: Yes if we ...

Kevin used his unmatched arcane knowledge to fight Elena when he returned. When she summoned him back from the dead she wished him back with all his former strength. That was the whole idea of her wish. The Dead lack free will according to 2nd chrons, not power. But Kevin was changed by his Ritual ...

With regard to Lord Foul enacting a Ritual of Desecration it seems to me that any power not strong enough to free him wouldn't give Foul much satisfaction. He clearly likes to hear himself talk and if he kills every single person in the Land there will be no one to listen to him monologue. Those po...

Then, suddenly, the specter of High Lord Kevin appeared before Lord Foul. The Despiser had been quietly sitting upon his throne, contemplating his strategy when Kevin's ghost unexpectedly became visible before him. For a moment Foul stared in silent amazement and then... "Bwahahahahahahahahaha...

Well just finished watching the Dark Tower. Boiling it down it wasn't a bad movie it just wasn't a particulaly good one. IMHO. Agree. Much better than the reviews had led me to believe. It wasn't that bad at all. One of the few movies that should have been *longer*. My thought is that they didn't h...

I'm interested in Rose Madder and Desperation thoughts! I even have a thread for the former, if you're interested in mine. I never read the Shining or Pet Sematary, because I'd already seen the movies. I know, the books are better. I'll get around to them. Salem's Lot is the perfect length. A book ...

Yeah looks like the movie is bad. Maybe it will be remade in a decade as a TV show or another (better) movie.

King is a good writer, when he tries. The first few DT books were awesome. Then he had his accident and when he recovered he churned them out to finish the series.

The last few DT books.... *sigh* Gerald's Game is not bad. The single most horrifying, depraved, and sadistic maniac in any King book is in there. Raymond Andrew Joubert. Eyes of the Dragon was my first King book, and IMO it still stands up. Plus Flagg is in there! It is my fave. Waste Lands is my f...

Unsubscribing from a thread

How do I unsubscribe from a thread? As in, I posted to some threads I now hate, and I am not going to ever post to them again, and I want to stop them from showing up when I click on "view your posts".

That's a tough one. I usually don't pay much attention to cover art, because of b) matching something that actually happens in the book. It's easier to find cover art I hate really. :D --A Ah, so you don't like when the cover art gives away a plot point? I agree, but the one above doesn't really gi...
