Hail Watchers, I haven't been around for a while, actually quite a while, more then ten years... What a surprise to find the email inviting old friends to drop in. I'm having a moment of nostalgia, remembering group readings I participated in. Actually I just recently read the last chronicles, so th...

Jon's Mother

I just finished reading the three books of the song of ice and fire a few days ago, and I was curious what my fellow readers had to say about them. They really draw you in don't they? Reading through the thread I saw the discussion about Jon's parenthood, and I recall that this was discussed in ASOS...

 Thanks guys, nice to know I've been missed.
Israel ... It's taking some adjusting after being in California for some years. Mostly I live in my bubble and don't watch TV otherwise it gets too depressing.

To me the saddest moment was at the scene of the One tree, when Covenant calls for Linden to save him and she doesn't/can't. This is when Covenant and we the readers understand that he is going to die.
Couldn't keep on reading after that for a week.

Foul, I truely identify with your views, I am what you might call the believer in the scientific religion. But, it's not that simple. When you get to the point in your life where you've made it, got married, got a house, had kids, have a good job, then you start asking yourself, what for? why am I d...

David Zindell about belief

I was reading "The Broken God" by David Zindell the other day, and there is a discussion about beliefs and worldviews which I thought was kind of relevant to this thread. Anyway, I really liked it, so here are some excerpts: "Our system is not a simple system like other systems; it is...

Inspiring post birdandbear! One of those that I read just before going to sleep and find myself answering an hour later... What is the difference between belief and faith and knowledge? Well, there is the temporal factor. Knowledge is facing the past, it's based on our experiences. Faith is looking ...

Wow, looks like I missed out on an exciting discussion. for instance, my definition; good = constructive, evil = destructive... It's funny, we were just talking about this... seeing the lava flows on the big island of Hawaii... was seeing the powers of creation at work, or is it the powers of destru...

The Illearth War Chapters 1 & 2

Chapter 1: The Dreams of Men & Chapter 2: "Halfhand" In the end of LFB we left Covenant Walking up the long driveway to his house as if that were his only hope The ordeal in the land has left Covenant mentally shaken. He is unable to digest it, unable to accept it, yet unable to deny i...

I've been following this discussion (although I havn't always had time to pitch in), and some very interesting points are being raised. What Nuerenburg did was to introduce new law .. based on the notion of a Universal Law - a law of nature .. or natural justice .. I think I understand what Sky is s...

I'm willing to start, I'll do the first two chapters and take shelter, we are off to Hawaii for Easter.

Danlo,Vain, I think we need some more publicity. Should we wait until we have more dissectors on board?

Zahir, I like your idea that there is a continuum between evil and virtue where individual lives roam to and fro. Yet I think that this is not a quality one can attribute to a person, rather to a specific behaviour or action. My view is that Fear and Desire are immutable parts of the world. Taking e...

I think I remember the Elohim defining themselves as the heart of the Land.
Yes, there are definately a lot of metaphors of the Land as a body, and the Land's plight as a sickness (especially in the second Chrons)
