An attempt at an assessment

So I have finally reread all of the Thomas Covenant books from first (LFB) to last (TLD). I feel like I can finally wrap my head around The Last Chronicles and give some insightful thoughts. So here goes... 1. Donaldson has mastered the art of describing complex action sequences. The battle of First...

I'm being pedantic, so pardon me :P, but how could it have been possible to pull Sara Clint out of Her unless Sara Clint was in Her? Or is the sense of "could have been" different? If we take the theory that SHE is a reflection of a facet of Linden's personality in much the same way that ...

I was very disappointed that Sheriff Lytton didn't end up in the land as Joan's hideous half-monster henchman. It just made sense on so many levels.

The simple fact is, the Last Chronicles should have been 5 books, not 4.
There's no way I could stand another book full of Linden Avery.
The First Chronicles of Linden Avery, due in bookstores August 2016.

'The first installment is tenatively titled, That Time of Month.

I expected the Creator to make an appearance before the end. And I expected to see the Theomach at least once more.

I'm thinking that She gave Linden a way to match the heroism and accomplishments of TC.

If the General Interview was still open....

What would you ask SRD?

Personally I'm dying to know what those items he seeded in the Second Chronicles were that prepared the way for the Last Chronicles.

Obviously the story of Kasty and probably the A-Jeroth song that mentions his lover. But what else?

4. Battle Scenes - "Dear SRD, please make long and epic battle scenes that even the most dumbest of movie goes will understand. Then we'll make a movie. Yours, Disney" Repetitive, agonizingly weak get outs and Deus Ex Machina Gotta give SRD credit here. The Last Chronicles have his best b...

As for quick impressions, I have six.. 1. Branl killing the raver was the most striking part of the book. 2. Miost of the rest of the book felt like it was walking from one Deus Ex Machina to another. 3. Jeremiah's recovery from his disassociation did not convince me. 4. The final challenges for Cov...

Mainly, I am trying to deal with the story as SRD wrote it and how I wished it would have been. In the end, it is his story, and so I have to find a way to be content with what he has done. I agree. Now that it is over, and we know how the story ends, I find myself wishing for more - just as I have...

I suspect that the Ranyhyn will force this issue with the Masters, either by entering the Land without warning or by forcing the Master to choose whether they will let the steeds enter.

PS I have to say - and this is my third-re-read - that many of my problems with The Last Chronicles seem now to have evaporated. Of course, I acknowledge that this might be an unwitting product of excitement at the imminent arrival of TLD, but I don't think so. I've appreciated The Last Chronicles ...

Gateway was one of those very few novels that partook fully of the "New Age" experimental elements espoused by Harlan Ellison et al. and yet also remained accessible to the ordinary sf fan of the time. If you can find a copy of it in a used bookstore, buy it. It doesn't translate well to t...
