I am approaching the end of ILW as well, and I can't remember if this actually happened or if we just discussed it here, but in TPTP, does TC try to look up to see of Hile Troy actually existed? He does try to call the military, but they give him the run around. And I don't mind myself about spoile...

I'm getting close to the end of the Illearth War, and I started to think about Troy. Did he die in our world? He fell (8?) stories to concrete below. When he becomes a forestal in training and lives for another 4,000 years, is that him in a coma? Or when the body dies here, is he just stuck in the L...

Well gosh, I'm sorry that I had to step out for a while, but I'm happy to see that I sparked such an interesting discussion. While I never truly believed the point I brought up in my original post (I do love playing the devil's advocate), I did find it an interesting avenue of thought to travel. We ...

They could have known from stories passed down what knowledge the Wards would ultimately contain, but not necessarily how to unlock the Wards to get to that knowledge. These Lords were much less far removed from the time of Lord Kevin; information hadn’t been diluted/changed/lost so much by time yet...

Did the Old Lords Sabatoge the future Generations?

I’ve just started to reread TIW, and I came across a passage that made me wonder if the first Lords to come about after the Desecration made a deliberate attempt to make it next to impossible for Wards 2-7 to be discovered and understood. “The First Ward he gave to the Giants, and when the exile was...

How can one possibly choose a favorite book ever? Your favorite book is going to be in a constant state of flux depending on your frame of mind, where you’re at in life, etc… So here is my list of books that I could (and do!) go back and read often. Not a complete list, mind you, but pretty well tho...

During this reread of LFB, I can’t help but dwell on how much of a jerk Covenant is. I mean, we get that you don’t want the Land to be real. But why continue on lashing out at everybody you pass by? Just about everybody in LFB other than the Bloodguard is a pity case. ‘Woe is me’ is a good descripti...

The thought for the day – I don’t think the Bloodguard could keep the poker faces they do without their psychic mind speak or whatever you want to call it. It allows them to release any pent up frustrations without saying them out loud. Banner to Korick: How dare this stranger of the Land to mock us...

Thanks everyone. I think I'll save up for the Giant's Ship. Any idea when the GPS model will be released?

Also, pastries are cooling off on grandma's window sill.

What must one do to join all of these various cliques, cliches and acronyms I am reading about? Can I join them all, or do they contradict each other? I don't mind joining one to become a secret agent that spies on the others. I can buy myself into their good graces with excellent homemade pastries.

TC and Hile Troy have two completely different mindsets. Where TC refuses to embrace the reality of the Land because it threatens his hold on sanity after he wakes up, Hile Troy embraces the gifts the Land gives him because he doesn't think he has anything to wake back up to. But I would argue that ...

Chapter Seven: Lena This is an important chapter in the book for me. Before he had heard the legend of Berek Halfhand, he seemed to be going back and forth as to whether or not he liked what the Land stood for. There was so much good here that he could not experience in his daily life. I find it qui...

By now I imagine the turtles are thinking: Oh would you look at that, more carrots. Again. Every damn day it's carrots. What does a turtle have to do to get some celery around here?

Lord Foul can see into the future to some degree, otherwise he could not have gotten the time frame so precise in his prophecy. But it is a constant state of flux, and nothing is certain until it happens. All he can do is choose a path he wants to set the world on, and do his best to steer events to...

My thoughts while rereading Lord Foul's Bane

I decided that I might want to try and keep a small journal of my thoughts as I go thru reading LFB for the fourth time. I don’t know how often I might keep it updated, but I’ll be interested to see the conclusions that others who came before me have reached. Today I started with Chapter 2. Thomas C...
