There's a couple books being released in a few days that I'm kind of waiting for.

In no particular order ...
1) An Unwelcome Quest: Magic 2.0, Book 3 by Scott Meyer
2) The Hidden Masters of Marandur: The Pillars of Reality, Book 2 by Jack Campbell

I got a new computer a few months ago and I've quickly developed a new pet peeve: Windows 8.1. On the bright side, apparently Microsoft has said that anyone running Windows 7 or 8.1 will be eligible for a free upgrade to the new Windows when it's released. Hopefully it's a much more coherent pile th...

Musically I'd call it a mix of Bluegrass and rock/pop. .. So ... yeah. At the point I wrote that first post I had only read the lyrics. I still think they sound like a depressed and lonely person. I don't know if that's what they intended, because the music is fairly upbeat and fun. See, both of th...

Re: Did you used to hate your parents' music...

I never really hated what my parents listened to. Most of it was Elvis, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino etc, so that wasn't bad at all. It took me a while to get into Eddy Arnold and Jim Reeves though. I had always told myself that I would never turn into the old fart that dislikes the majority of modern m...

The Rediscovery of Man by Cordwainer Smith

I don't know if anybody here has read any of this stuff, but I'm about 4 stories in and it's very odd. Not in a bad way, just very different and strange.

After looking at my list of tunes by year, the only one that really sticks out at all is Bleed Like Me from Garbage.

Other than that ... maybe a Best Of or two.

don't know the song (which is usually the case for me) but nice visual / metaphor thingy, man. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja2evWhGWHA If you've never listened to him before, his voice may take some getting used to. It's not a traditional style voice. I think the first Tom Waits I ever heard wa...

F&F, I *do* think that consciousness can only come about from living matter. That's not to say we won't create sentient beings, but I think they'll be alive, not mere machines. What would be the real difference between a metal or plastic machine and the organic machines that we are? Does the ma...

I've seen the Dirk series. It's not bad taken on it's own. Don't go into it expecting a completely faithful adaptation though.

I wouldn't have either except that I heard (or read? I forget now) something about the band saying that the album was going to be heavier and stuff, so I figured their flirtation with top 40 was over.

Well, I guess it was over. As far as I know they haven't had any more hit tunes since then ...

The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul by Douglas Adams That title amuses me... yup, y yup, pretty Douglas Adams. I am a huge fan of both the Hitchhiker's books and the Dirk Gently Books. He walks that line between absurd and "yeah, that kinda makes sense" like no other author I've ever heard...

I tend towards the lighter end of fantasy and SF. It takes a special effort for me to get interested in a set of 4,5, or even 9 books. Especially if they're heavily technical. I've actually been looking for good, solid horror novels for a while and I'm having a lot of trouble finding ones that aren'...
