Alright, if one takes the analogy into literal reality ... People would very quickly realize that everyone around them was a cotton picking liar, from start to finish. Remember the film Liar Liar? Imagine that on a global scale. Television and radio would convey the lie just as well as face to face ...

Really? I could have sworn it was "Can't save Jeremiah without power, so get enough to save him". I mean, could you possibly spin things more twistedly? It's like saying, "Mhoram was a powermonger. His attitude was to get enough power to desecrate the earth. And to not share it with ...

Linden seems to be a powermonger. Her attitude is: Get ultimate power, and save Jeremiah. (I seem to remember another being in these series who thought ultimate power was the answer. His name is Lord Foul.) Linden must have released many megatons of magical energy there in Andelain, at the end (base...

I think Liand's love for Pahni is the reason for his slow transformation into an effective character, as well as a more real person to the reader. What I'd like to know, is how he will ever keep up with Pahni, though. Her Ramen service has gifted her with supernatural speed, stealth, endurance, and ...

(sighs) We all know that every action in this setting has consequences. There is no escaping those consequences, and the consequences tend to be dire. Ask Elena about consequences. Hile Troy. Even poor Atiarian. And Covenant learned the hard way about running from consequences. Linden is wielding en...

I agree with the reviewers.
Fatal Revenant is Donaldson at his best. This is a great book.

Stephen Donaldson makes it clear in the Gradual Interview that the Law is weakened (indeed, reduced to rubble, which Joan blasts into oblivion chunk by chunk.) I believe he states that if the Law completely collapses, the Arch of Time collapses. He also makes no mention of any fourth or subsequent L...

The Linden Avery who ended the Sunbane, who was healed by Thomas Covenant, would not have done what she has done. My opinion. She has become the Anti-Heroine, damning the Land and Earth with her actions. She has fallen. Elena told Covenant to heal Linden, so she would heal the Land. And Covenant did...

We saw the effect of the breaking of the Law of Death. Satansheart could rip the dead up out of the ground and throw them at Revelwood and Revelstone. We see the effect of the breaking of the Law of Life. Covenant could return and place himself between Foul and the Arch. The Dead in Andelain can for...

Of course Linden healed Berek's soldiers. That behavior reflects who Linden is. You have the good and the bad with Linden Avery. The same stubbornness and courage that allowed her to walk into an armed and hostile camp, was the stubbornness and courage that allowed her to hold on her way, until she ...

Let me say that I'm not criticizing Stephen Donaldson's writing. I'm criticizing the behavior of some of his *characters.* (Of course, the jury is still out on the why of said behavior of some of them, since we do not know all the facts.) Something has gone profoundly wrong with Linden Avery. She sh...

I would ask Linden: Who are you, to irresponsibly use power? I would ask the Harrow: Who are you, to so abuse knowledge? I would ask Infelice: Why do you refuse to recognize the responsibility of power? I would ask Roger: Where'd you learn to be a sociopath? Oh, and you actually take Lord Foul at hi...

A bunch of lunatics

I seem to remember a number of *wise* characters across the Land and Earth mentioning the limitations and perils of Power, and the need to employ what Power one has wisely. So, where does the following come from? The Haruchai: We suffice to be Supreme Masters of the Land, and dominate it's destiny a...

I'm not as forgiving of Linden as some of you. Cail once said to Linden: 'That we do not question. Is Corruption not always convinced of it's own rightness?' Linden should have listened. Linden has been obsessed with saving Jeremiah from the start. Obsessed. Nothing must stop her. Nothing else is re...

I would say fragile is an understatement. The Arch of Time was upheld by the three laws: the Laws of Death, Life, and Time. Along comes Elena, and with the Power of Command breaks the Law of Death. Along comes Caer-Caveral, and with Sunder's help breaks the Law of Life. Along comes Joan, and with Wh...

Well, Donaldson *did* speak of the series blasting off into space, metaphorically ... :)

Actually, though, no: It will not be Lepers In Space or the Swiss Family Covenant.
Time/space only exists within the Arch. Outside the Arch, time does not exist.

I would say that the Raynhim are not guilty. Elena made the final decision, not them. Elena believed in making 'grand' gestures, as it were. She would wipe out Lord Foul with one great felling blow, invincible and adamant with the Earthblood. It didn't work out that way. The Raynhim tried to warn he...

Stephen Donaldson did mention the Caesures existed before the breaking of the Law of Life, but that they were not noticed, and had little effect. Yet the Demondim reached back to a time before the breaking of the Law of Death - when the fundamental Law of the world was at it's strongest - to use the...
