I don't think exposition is the issue. This isn't Robert Jordan for God's sake... Fatal Revenant is NOT book 8 of a 10 book series in so much as its book 2 of the 4 book Last Chronicles. Each of the Chronicles is a separate series; the fact that some of the characters continue from one to the other ...
