I'm not sure whether people are interested, but here's the books the book club I'm running are reading for the first few months next year.

Shirley Hazzard - The Transit of Venus
Clare Chambers - Small Pleasures
Paul Theroux - The Great Railway Bazaar

Thanks for correcting me Menolly. My apologies! Regarding reading, I've begun my second read of "Seventh Decimate" and I hope to read all three Great God's War books over the (Australian) summer. I haven't read "War within" or "the Killing God" before, so my reading may...

We just did 'Boy' by Roald Dahl for a book club I run. A surprisingly candid memoir of his childhood. He describes boarding school and corporal punishment, and some fun adventures. Simple true life adventure stories very well told. Dahl wrote back to his Mum weekly all through his boarding school ye...

Illume brought this 'reading club' discussion to my attention! I've become the world's slowest reader and I have a LOT of reading to get through for my theology studies. I also run a book club and read for that. And also I like to read some things for fun or curiosity. So adding further reading isn'...

Finishing off "Ender's Game". I got half way through it last December in Hawaii and put it down to finish the Last Chrons. It's an OK book, but its quite cringeworthy in places too, with the weird sexual references.

Hey everyone! I'm back home in Melbourne. What a trip! Thank you so much Lady Tam and Danlo for hosting and organising such an amazing event. And of course thanks to all my fellow SRD nerds ("Watchers" doesnt really work for me). My whole time in Abq was amazing, from being picked up at th...

I'm not sure about the first 6 books as I read them a few times as a teenager. I've definitely read all 6 books twice in the last 10 years, so all up I'd guess 4 times. I've read Runes 3 times, FR twice, and AATE and TLD once each. Definitely more re-reads of the LC to come in future for me.

Now that I've finally finished the Last Chrons, I'm not actually reading any fantasy/sci-fi at the moment. I want to get back into Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson at some point, and eventually I'll get around to Malazan as well.

The two biggest changes I noticed on my recent re-read of the first and second chrons were - The pain I felt on reading about Joan abandoning Covenant. Having been through a similar personal experience recently, I know pretty well how that feels, and that brought a very raw sense of pain to reading ...

The Silkworm

JK Rowling's new Robert Galbraith novel "The Silkworm" is out. I grabbed a copy yesterday evening and I'm giving it a go. Hoping for a light and fun holiday read.

Here's my Last Dark first impressions. - This may sound bizarre but I was immediately disappointed on seeing the page count of TLD at 530 or so pages. We get great big fat books in FR and AATE at ~700+ pages, and given the events that take place in TLD I was fearful that less narrative space would b...

Ok, I'm arriving Thursday 19th with my jet lag, staying at the Sheraton at the airport. I'm leaving early Monday 23rd, flying out to Chicago and then on to Indianapolis to continue my holiday. Phone contact details for you guys would be great as I haven't yet met any of you in person. :)

Am now half way through Against All Things Ending. One thing I will say about SRD, is that he has guts for writing such a difficult and complicated and just plain different story to the first two Chronicles. I should get the series done before Elohimfest ... I figure I have the long plane flight to ...

Finished Runes of the Earth in my grand re-read last night. My third time reading Runes, and I was captivated all the way through. I remember on my first read being overwhelmed at the complexity of the story, and that the story itself wasn't going in the direction I was expecting. On this latest rea...

Ok, I am definitely coming to Elohimfest. I've just booked my return flights from Melbourne -- LA. 19th June-7th July. In typical fashion I missed the cheap flights by just a couple of days, but I'm now committed. I now need to put through my leave from work! ;)

I'll be able to help with expenses as well, but as I'm in Australia it'd be easier for me to hand Danlo some USD cash when I arrive in the US. I assume that's ok. I haven't booked accomadation yet, so I'll look to book at the Airport Sheraton when that link is available. :)
