fans and fans

OK, here's a topic thread that I'm sure can devolve into a spamirfic flame festival. However, over the past few years I've occasionally posed the question of sports fans as compared to media (especially SF/fantasy media) fans. This comparison has caused some to seriously question my obvious lack of ...

Throwing some history in the conversation

Since you all here love to discuss things in an ahistorical context. Here's some history for you Bernie Sanders since being elected to the House of Representatives in 1990 has always caucaused with the House Democrats. And noone has any reason to think he'll change that practice since his legislativ...

The following was written before now Although alarming, and certainly needs to be stopped, you can't really believe the Republicans are the only ones who pull this BS. WHY CAN'T I believe that especially since it's by all likelihood true! Regardless, in my Congressional district, Illinois 6th distri...

Warrior's Apprentice

NOBODY TOLD ME! ;) Warrior's Aprrentice (the text that follows Barrayar in the saga of Miles Naismith Vorkosigan, who we just catch a glimpse of as a little five yr. old right at the end of Barrayar ) is not available anymore as a stand alone volume. We now have Young Miles , which is a fixup of War...

poll tax

To be clear, the ideas being floated around of requiring voter ID cards as in one's DL or State ID card, unconstitutional because they would constitute a ' poll tax ' which is contrary to one of the amendments of the constitution (BTW, when my father lived in Massachussetts before 1949 they had a po...

Sopranos

Lucimay wrote I like the season in general, but i have to say, the finale was a bit of a let down. According to what I've heard the last eqisode shown was not the finale, there are definite plans to show between four and six more episodes to conclude those episodes shown earlier in 2006. I'm sure so...

Beers

When I was a college student I had a taste for Lowenbrau Dark (this was the not the Lowenbrau from Geermany, IIRC it was a licensed product of Budweiser). Then later like after college I liked Killians Red (a speciality product from Coors, I think), Harvey Weinberg's before the brand was bought my M...

Season two finale

Realizing you're all beyond this by now. But [quote]taraswizard wrote: I liked season 3 premier lots and lots more than season 2 finale. I f***ing hated, hated the season 2 finale, thought it was boring waste of time, and it almost put me off watching the premier. Really, you hated the Finale and th...

going have to add to Lucimay's ranting

Sorry, going to have to add to Lucimay's ranting. The only funds public libraries (community, school, post secondary) have are by definition public funds. This is CENSORSHIP, the above listed entities are governmental entities and the curtailment of expression by a governmental entity is by definiti...

Reading Cordelia's Honor spoiliery

I'm reading Cordelia's Honor , and I got a few questions. Is Cordelia Naismith Lady Vorkosigan condemned from ever returning to Beta Colony, and she has no homesickness does that seem impropbable to anyone? So Cordelia and Aral just meet on the survey planet, trek the sixty or so miles back to the s...

novel suggestions

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, published in 1996. It fits your criteria of being after 1990 and it definitely has a literary sensibility to it, but it's longish (IMO a quick read). Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, published in 1995. Fits both criteria, and is much shorter The Sparrow .

Heroes on NBC, good enough to get me watch it again. Might get to have a reverse effect on Studio 60, which I believe is a very good school.
