This is easy? I thought I was reasonably familiar with Tolkien's works, but apparently I know nothing.
Arvedui was the last king of Arnor (yes?), and the name of the seer is Glorfindel.
Can't quote the text, though. I have all of them, but apparently I don't know how to use an index properly.

I'll give the man the benefit of the doubt. You gotta remember how fast he wrote and published the first three books. He definitely knows how to work hard. I, too, extend the benefit of the doubt, but you've helped make my point--kind of. He did write the first three quickly, especially ASoS, which...

I'm not assigning blame. I'm explaining the origins of clandestine meetings between homosexual men. I guarantee you that if homosexuality had never been considered a sin, if gay men and women had always been able to identify themselves as gay without fear of retribution, that places like bathrooms, ...

I think in his post about the release of AFFC, he said that ADWD was almost finished. That post is at least three years old. I haven't read AFFC yet. It had been five years between ASOS and I just didn't recall enough of his enormous cast of characters to enjoy it. So I set it aside, awaiting his an...

I agree--I don't want anything less than his best as well. Have you read the update he posted on his website? That's what somewhat rankled me. Specifically this part: Well, the book's not done. And we've had home renovations. And the book's not done. And there's been work on other projects, on comic...

They went with what worked. Another example of that is the YMCA . Anyplace that was out of sight from people who might do some of what I mentioned above, worked. It absolutely IS societies fault that gay men had to find other social outlets than those readily available to their heterosexual contempo...

Fantasy is cleaning up during National Novel Writing Month
For those who don't know it, November is National Novel Writing Month. That's what the NaNoWriMo stands for in my avatar. You pledge to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. (Or unofficially to write the first 50k of your novel in 30 days...which is what I'm doing.) One statistic that NaNoWriMo trac...

:LOLS: Of course...what else. No doubt George Michaels is too. --A On a bus tour I was on in Hollywood, it was pointed out. From what I could tell, the route specifically drove past that spot to highlight it. I was very pleased that it was of minimal interest to people. Mini-Me's home caused ...

And there are lots of gays (and I speak from hearsay here I admit) who enjoy hooking up in the way the Senator apparently did - it's not always done that way just to hide it from people, sometimes its what is actually preferred. Men having sex in bathrooms finds its origins in the U.S.'s repressive...

Entertainment Weekly interview with GRRM
What's most notable is that a mainstream magazine is paying more and more attention to fantasy and science fiction these days. He answered some questions submitted by fans, and they can be found here: ew.com/martin Here's the first question. I'm on the side of the submitter here. GRRM seems (in his ...

Speaking of Roger -- how in the world did he know so much? The obvious answer is that Foul drilled him, but Roger seemed to know *too* much, had very specific knowledge, which is why I bought him being TC for so long. I just can't see Foul sitting around patiently putting Roger through a L(and)CAT p...
