I think I'm going to re-read Kevin J Anderson's "Saga of Seven Suns" starting with book 1, Hidden Empire.

Pretty damn steep for a nearly 20 year old game. I did play the original all the way through, although only after I played Skyrim, and largely found it meh. I doubt I'll bother with this one.
