Well, if you look at it that way... any taxation is a form of wealth re-distribution. Even road-building using tax dollars counts, since both the contractor with the winning bids, and all its employees benefit. Of course, the public also benefits, assuming that it is a public road. A tax subsidy to ...

I want to scream every time I hear McCain talk about how important it is to keep home values high. I think I know the answer, but specifically, why does this steam your stitches? I recognize that home prices are wildly inflated in many areas - in fact, I think we discussed this in another thread, w...

I'm not sure that it's that big of a deal BC. Again, did Bill Clinton pay out of pocket to take Hillary and Chelsea around when he was POTUS? The woman's got a basketball team worth of kids, why is it inappropriate that they travel with her? Well that's the core of it, isn't it? If Alaska doesn't m...

I think I'm with Cail and Ali on this one. If the RNC wants to make sure their candidate is sartorially swanky in front of millions, I don't see the issue. However, I also recognize and agree that Palin flying her kids around to uninvited venues on the state dime, while not illegal in the least, doe...

I think anybody who seriously believes the BO Media (aka ABC, NBC, CNN, NYT etc etc) is capable of being even remotely fair and balanced - and able to speak truthfully about anything that may put BO in a bad light, needs to start exercising some critical thinking abilities. They're in the tank for ...

My apologies if this MSNBC article has already been linked. I found it to be a good one. Wow. That was an interesting read. He sounds authentic. Authentically bat-$#!+ crazy, that is, with a mean-streak and a penchant for tilting at windmills in his head. So, if his grandmother's health declines and (god forbid) she passes away, this guy will claim, what? That her death was politically ...

But if everyone started taking care of themselves then wouldnt they go up on the price so they can keep the same margins? They make X number of dollars before They make Z = X - Y dollars now They increase Z so that Z = X Again this is a hypothetical. But if you take all the healthy people out of th...

I agreed with the mostly positive assessment of McCain in this Newsweek article : McCain's New York State of Mind Andrew Romano As Sinatra once said about New York, "if [you] can make it there, [you] can make it anywhere." So why does the opposite seem true for John McCain? Last night, McC...

 BC does the banana dance in celebration of his victory.

There's just something extra dignified about a banana dancing against a black background, isn't there?

Can't wait for the next contest!

What is the diff between DVD-A and an optic coming from a disc player headed to the receiver?

When re-connecting our system to include the HDTV, I just assumed that the optic cable was the best thing to use when connecting our (std-def) DVD player audio to the receiver... did I goof?

I've heard good sounds coming from a buddy's Klipsch speaker set. Our downstairs system currently consists of a matched set of three Sony speakers (2 tower fronts and a center channel) with a Sony powered sub. It sounds great - especially with the sub - the ultimate test of which is the scene in FOT...

Do either of you make use of the typical Sony receiver feature which actually has switched A/B front speakers, so you can have a set of speakers for music only, and a set for A/V stuff? I had a switched setup briefly, until I decided to put the music-focused system upstairs (which was precipitated w...

I found this Newsweek article interesting, as it concludes that many of the worst excesses one can imagine from a Dem-Dem DC aren't feasible given the current economic conditions. Here is an excerpt: Expertinent: Making Sense of McCain's 'Divided Government' Argument Andrew Romano Expertinent is a r...

I added a quick edit, but I guess you were posting. The digital signal won't pass the hi-resolution surround sound, unless it is through the HDMI (I believe for copy-protection reasons, for one thing). The optical will only transfer the current lossy standard DD5.1 and DTS. I need the unit to decod...
