here's where i run into problems being a hebrew scholar instead of a biblical scholar. talmid vs talmud. the only problem i see with Elohim being indicitave of the trinity is that as an Old Testament word, the writers at that time would have no knowledge of the trinity. If I may be so bold as to an...

I'd have the same problem with the hundreds of years of Classical, if there was a Classical to vote for :(

duchess, Ever heard of Nickel Creek? I just got their self-titled cd, because I saw a video of theirs on CMT a few times. (Not particularly a country music fan myself, but a woman at work is, so it's on sometimes.) They have definite bluegrass roots, even produced by Allison Kraus. One track is call...

I sobbed like a baby, I am not ashamed to admit, when TC gave the dead giants their release from damnation at the end of TWL. Mother of God, Yes!! It's kinda funny to be talking with another guy (owner of a comic book store), both of us saying how we cry at that part. Couple of wimps! That wh...

For the Giants

Ah, my friends, none can bring tears to my eyes like the Giants! Their fierce joys, and the depths of their pains! OK, here's some of my favorite examples of Giant beauty and wisdom. Some of my favorite happy moments. I'll also get to some the sad ones if nobody beats me to them. The last two...

Hmm, not sure about James Marsters as Covenant. Strikes me as being too young, buff and attractive. No prob. He could be uglied. But I think emotionally he could do it. Ooh, and how about the Eliza Dushku (Faith) to play Lord Elena? Yes! I love that too!! And Oz could be Amok. Never gives you a str...

mind-melds

How many mind-melds have we seen in literature/fantasy/movies/etc? The five that come to my mind right away are the Haruchai, the Lords, Star Trek's Borg, Star Trek's Vulcans, and the Starslammers (which is a fantastic comic book). The Borg and the Starslammers have the most int...

Re: Once more: names

Btw, am I the only who thinks it's strange Kevin was afraid to use the Power of Command, but thought it was Ok to do the Ritual of Desecration? This point has always interested me. I assume Kevin couldn't think of anything to Command that had a better chance to kill Foul than the Ritual. Little did...

I've loved both movies so far. My only real complaint can be seen in this: "Then Eomer son of Eomund, Third Marshal of Riddermark, let Gimli the Dwarf Gloin's son warn you against foolish words. You speak evil of that which is fair beyond the reach of your thought, and only little wit can excus...

Well, Fist and Faith is, as you all remember (don't break my heart and tell me you don't :)), something the Bloodguard said a few times. I guess I'd call it their battle cry. But I'd say it's more their creed, the way they define themselves. [It could be for all Haruchai, but SRD never actual...

Anybody read the Heir to the Empire books? Thrawn is just about the coolest guy in the Star Wars universe! As for the movies, the only thing I care about is the Jedi. Love story, blah blah. Fate of the Republic, blah blah. LOL Oh well. I just want to hear wise words about the force, and see l...

I tried Rice's "Interview..." years ago, and actually stopped reading in the middle. It just didn't do a thing for me. But her sister, Alice Borchardt, has three werewolf books that I really like. The way the wolves see and feel about life, the world, and everything is very well done, imo....

I don't think the note meant that the real world will be destroyed because of any kind of connection. I think it means that whoever "abstracted" and "deposited" the guy would destroy his world if he loses the battle, having judged his world unworthy. On another level, I think per...

:) I hadn't particularly noticed the similarities. True enough though. I guess it's true what somebody said about there only being a few stories out there, just told differently. I'm a big Buffy fan. Just got the second season on DVD. I'll go so far as to say that, at least through the Adam storylin...

If you enjoyed those, I highly recommend Illusions by Richard Bach, if you haven't read it already (his other stuff is good, too). I recommend this book to everybody . It only takes a couple of hours to read. You can even consider it to be fantasy (but like the best fantasy, as allegory). I think i...

-I've read the Earthsea series. Very artistic and elegant. Rife with symbolism but still not even close to being in league with TCTC. Earthsea isn't, imo, remotely as thought-provoking as TCTC. Just the simple, calm, yet deep wisdom of Taoism. (Although she doesn't know Chinese at all, she h...

I do have a pretty good memory, though, as well as a passion for the books. I feel towards them somewhat the way a lot of people feel towards the bible. Amen! :) Me too. I first read them when I was in high school. Which is a time when most people are doing a lot of soul-searching, discovering who ...
