Re: Wouldn't you like....
I’d like to read a fantasy series where the bad guys win and the good guys die. I know, I know, what kind of freak am I!? Well, I’m not really a freak, I just know that in the real world the bad guys often do win. And wouldn’t it be a fascinating departure from all the books out there to read a tri...

After the first book, what I like about this series is how these people from the real world change the fantasy world. I mean entirely remake its political, economic, and technological structure. (You certainly don't see Covenant trying to introduce gunpowder to help the people of the Land . . . whi...

Robin Hobb pretty much owes her entire career to Katherine Kurtz. Too bad she can't even list her as one of her favorite authors on her website. I've never read Robin Hobb. . . is she worth checking out? Yeah, I liked her books a lot. If you want to read more Deryni novels, just check out the Farse...

I agree with Scalzi, too. On the whole, I don't care how long it takes him to write the next book or finish the series. I would rather read a book that's done properly than one that was written quickly anyday. And there are other books out there to read. But, I've lost my confidence in Martin being ...

Star Maker . I gave it a shot, but I'm not even sure it's a novel. 8O 8O Personally, it's a masterpiece. Oh well, each to their own. Does it have any dialogue? I read the first 15-20 pages, and I'm not even sure there were any characters. It was just a bunch of philosophical musing, which isn't my ...

I'm reading Deryni Checkmate now, and loving it. Fantastic! She's one of my favorite authors, and I got into her series just before I read SRD as a teenager. I always wished I was born Deryni. Yeah, I love these books. I've been reading them my whole life, but this is the first time I've ...

Yeah, it's amazing how crappy the ski poles and boots are in the future. Glad I'm living in the here and now. I got a book I'd like to know what it was: it was a sci-fi book about a gladiator, probably written ~1980 (read it in 1983). It was pretty cool. As I recall, there was a lot of planet-hopping.

Hey, at least he managed to knock out a novelette for the Jack Vance tribute anthology that he edited.

Pretty spoilerish if you haven't read the first 3 books, but I'm only tagging a bit. Finished the trilogy yesterday. On the whole, I really liked it, although it doesn't really end with the 3d book. I'm not really sure what to do now. You can tell that the story may drag on (duh, there are 10 books)...

Yeah, I liked the story, and definitely liked getting more info on Deighton. Hell, I read it in like 4 days (took me ~40 to slog through The Diamond Age ). It just started off kind of weird-the goal was to return Aiae home, and go out and kill slavers. The first book had more of a classic quest to i...
