Not far - maybe 2/3 of the way through the second book. By then it was pretty clear that it wasn't going to work for me. Interesting as well that King cites TCTC as one of his 'inspirations' to write the series (along with The Good, The Bad and The Ugly). Do you mean challenging as in difficult to g...

Do you mean challenging as in difficult to get in to, or in the sense that i) Covenant is in many ways not a nice man and/or ii) when the land of the first series had eventually got under your skin the total destruction of it in the second series was just too much to bear. I would put Stephen Kings ...

Yeah - that stone tower with the lightening is the one I meant (see Hue of Bones posting). Must admit I never considered it as anything other than the Watch. I seem to remember that Lena said she had seen a diturbance up on the platform that had drawn her up there and always assumed the lightening i...

Great work guys, but for me the definative Kevins Watch will always be the one illustrated on the cover of the first UK paperback issue (by Fontana I believe) of LFB. This must have been the reason I picked up the first book, for the first time, all those years ago. Check it out in the cover art sec...

On the point of sacrificing Trells family in order to save the world I think it is worth remembering that Lord Morham would not sacrifice the life of even one little girl - and one not even from his own world (one of the most touching scenes in the whole series to be found in TPTP) - in order to sav...

I have known a number of people who found LFB a slow starter but percevered to their eventual satisfaction. Me, I was hooked from page 1 and thought it was the attention to detail that was put into this part of the series that made the whole of The Land and its people such a rich and believable (no ...

YEAH! That cut right to the heart of the 'Yoda voice' issue and I think demolished it in one go. And it was as neat a bit of literary criticism in a couple of lines as I have come across. dlbpharmd - you rock! If the poem were truly written in "yoda voice," then it would start: In Beauty s...

I think in Covenants case I would have used the Power in order to try to undo the harm I had done to Lena and her family (I know Covenant had tried to make reparation with the Ranhyin but this had clearly failed). I think the Kevin summoning idea was the bad idea to top all bad ideas - as indeed it ...

For me, High Lord Kevin has always been a larger than life figure. A huge man, full of both power and sadness, knowledge and pain - but with a capacity for compassion beyond any others, before or after. All this would be visible in his craggy bearded face and would be enough to inspire both awe and ...

It's a stunning piece of work Blackhawk, but man you need to be reading Fatal Revenant ASAP before doing any more artwork - you hear what I'm sayin'.

Trells despair had gone beyond the point of forgivness and redemption. It had reached that point where, akin to sunlight focused through a lens it had become every thing that he was, is, or ever would be. That was why he was able to enact the ritual of dessecration - he had become Fouls servant in a...

A bit of a digression from your question, but I have seen lots of different cover artworks for the books over the years and the ones that always do it for me best are still the original UK paperback covers. TC ic never depicted on them and the circular inset pictures always seem to get 'the feel' of...

How was it for you.....

I bet this is a pretty hackneyed theme but which one of us does not go all warm and gooey when we think of how we found our first Covenant book (hopefully LFB) and what it was like when we opened the very first page for the very first time. Here's my story. I was 19y.o.when I found Lord Fouls Bane i...

I guess the spoiler thing would have to be a real pain in the ass but myself, I can't imagine doing/reading/thinking anything else but reading a new SDR book from the moment I got my hands on it and untill I had reached the very last page - and thus, no spoiler will ever touch me!

Not sure if the Ramen would have been found so far from the Plains of Ra (in the direction of the Watch at least) at the time of Winhome Gay etc. so would also go with Lena (or a young Elena given the blue robe......Heck, I don't know but I like it/them very much and wish I could do stuff like that!).

I think the designed use of 'Nekrimah' was exactly as Covenant used it - and possibly the Ur-viles were aware of exactly when and where it would be used; who can say to what heights (or depths) of knowledge their roynish lore had taken them!
