Morning folks.

I have no problem with dAN getting Mt Thunder. But I think that it's only fair for Vain to create the Wight-Warrens for Ur-Vile as well.

Interesting thread indeed. Caer-- "Thou art God." Excellent post, although it probably raises more questions than it answers, I really thought it was great. As for myself, well, that's not an easy question. I like to believe a lot of things, but when you get right down to it, it's only bec...

Western society views individual freedom as the highest ideal (rightly so IMHO) and as long as an individual is free to choose his beliefs, religion, lifestyle etc...than I am all for live and let live. This works as long as the individuals beliefs do not cause harm to others or infringe on another...

Unfortunately, I don't think that you are. That's what makes it so frightening. Especially when you consider that Big Brother is only one of a multitude.

Not to mention the preponderance of things like spy cams etc. on the Web.

Yes, once one person admits it, the rest start crawling out of the woodwork! ;)

I really haven't kept up. Started to fall behind once the Rigante series started, and haven't gotten around to making up for lost time.

Ur-Vile wrote:One wonders whether reality shows like Big Brother are not made to be popular so as to make extensive levels of surveillance acceptable or normal.
This is an excellent point, and one which I, as much as I hate the shows, have never considered.

You could well be right.

I thought the movie was great, and have seen it quite a few times. Struggled with the book until I got the hang of the syntax.

As for 1984, I loved it. One of the best horror stories I've ever read.

He got the year wrong, but I fear that 1984 is closer than ever.

Brinn--A well reasoned, persuasive and honest post. Put in those terms, I am hard-pressed to find something to argue with. Give me a chance though :) As soon as I can think of something, I'll be back  Also, I am pleased/ashamed to say that for once, Mr Bush's revised explanation makes better se...

I don't think the Elohim really cared. They had become so wrapped up in their perception that all truth resided in them, that they ceased to do anything but contemplate their own navels.

If the Quest hadn't come to them, would they still have appointed Findail and sent him out alone?

Very interesting indeed. I have never heard of Jihad as the sixth pillar, but then, I have never had the opportunity to debate with an Islamic radical. I suppose it comes down to the age old dichotomoy of all religion. People will extract what they feel is the most relevant parts of their religious ...

Damn, I wish I could get hold of a copy of Neverwhere , it really blew my mind. Great concept, and I could easily imagine it, especially knowing the places in London that it talks about. (I lived there for a couple of years) RoofWorld , which I mentioned, is similar in the concept of a "secret&...

It can be a bugger trying to get the pasting of the "quote" code in the right place. Defintely re-read those, I think they're actually pretty good. And do yourself a favour, read Lion , it really enhances Dark Prince to understand the story of Parmenion. How did you enjoy Neverwhere ...

Sure I've got things to add, (I'm chronically verbose) and thanks for thinking of me Cj :) I really like Gemmel, but I think I prefer his earlier books. Haven't really kept up with the Rigante series, although I'll get around to it sometime. Cj, you can't go wrong with Neverwhere, it's one of my all...

Brinn-- Fair enough, I certainly don't dispute that Islam has been characterised by as many religious conflicts as Christianity has, but I think Ur-Vile makes an excellent point. However, Jihad is not a requirement of Islam. The only requirements are the 5 pillars of the faith: Shahada (affirmation)...

You get WGD for posting, or a couple more for starting a topic. On the whole, people accumulate them through the kindness of others, who donate them. Once you have enough, you can buy things, including a title, from the shop.

Well, Now I'm getting an Invalid User Id from Darth's recruitment centre too. However, not being one to squander a generous impulse, Caer got a man from me instead.

Darth, if you can sort this out, you can have one too.
