mRNA flu vaccines! Bundled with COVID, RSV and HMPV! I was wondering when we'd see this... We won't be seeing it this year - there's no emergency use authorization, unlike the COVID vaccine - but this could be huge for public health. Current vaccines for the flu are sometimes as low as 40% effectiv...

Never a good sign when you have to look up the plot of a book you're reading...just saying... :D --A Well, I wanted to know if the entire book was like that. Turns out the last start I'm in is actually the main character for the next 10 books in the series, so I think the false starts are over. The...

Primal was so much fun. Shorter than the others, but so. much. fun. I liked FC3, skipped 4, and tried 5 - quit halfway through. It wasn't fun at all, and the story didn't interest me either. Plus, they'd randomly stop whatever open-world activity you're doing and force you into a shooter-on-rails se...

Alternatively, there could be some chemical process by which one forms a clay body so that when heat is applied to it is sets into stone....but we probably would have rediscovered such a technology by now. I dunno, we still can't recreate Roman cement (although we're getting closer; apparently a bi...

I started reading CJ Cherryh's Foreigner, and got a few chapters in. The problem is all the false starts. You get into the story, meet some characters, then BAM- next chapter is a hundred years later or something. I got tired of starting over in it and put it down, then googled the plot and found ou...

So much for that idea.
At least, considering life as we know it. if there is life, it's entirely unlike anything we're familiar with.

So I tried the first few levels of Death of the Outsider, and I'm playing in a very non-Dishonoured way... basically killing everyone. I think I need to try something else before I get into that, or just embrace the chaos (though this last one doesn't include the Chaos system from the previous games).

Just finished my achievement run on Spider-Man (PS4). I got the remastered version with the Miles Morales sequel; played both stories, then went back to the first for all the trophies. The only trophy I'm missing now is beating NG+ on Ultimate difficulty, but I need to set it aside for a bit. Kind o...

Well Elon apparently changed his mind when informed of the environmental cost. According to Ars , the carbon footprint of a Model 3's worth of bitcoin is 400 metric tonnes, while the footprint of the car itself (including both manufacture and expected use over its lifetime) is only 8.9 metric tonnes...

Chicken eggs are only white because the shells are washed and bleached to make them more 'attractive'. It also has the effect of weakening the shell, making them more susceptible to salmonella - which is why you need to refrigerate white eggs, but not brown. I know several countries don't *allow* bl...

I swear the unbleached chicken eggs (brown) are more filling/satisfying than the white ones, but I've had other people tell me it's a placebo effect. Whatever, I prefer the browns. Never tried anything other than chicken eggs. I wonder what platypus eggs taste like? (The platypus, producing both mil...
