I, too, misunderstood "here" to refer to the thread, rather than the broader media and societal discussion. I reread the thread, found nothing like the attitudes you cited, and didn't comment further.

Glad you offered a clarification.

It is probably too late to do anything about it; the update either will or will not address it...but over the years, I've bestowed many "GoodPost" likes by virtue of my trackpad traversing that button and registering an unintended click. No way to undo it... Hopefully if the new platform h...

I shudder to think of such PC changes being applied to the works of Mark Twain. Or might this even extend to Shakespeare?

Sky, the past cannot be undone. Riley is dealing with multiple challenges at a very young age. Her parents and extended family (including you) are adjusting to a lot of expectation shifts. Implantation earlier may have been better, but now is far better than later...and this is when the opportunity ...

Everybody say what you think. It you just want to state it as your opinion, and not try to support it, fine. If you want to try to convince someone else, go for it. If you want someone to support their statement, ask them to do so. If they don't, then you're not convinced. Eventually, maybe you'll ...

But, yesterday? I'm showing today. Take a quck scroll up. On the left of my post upthread, it says " Joined: 01 Mar 2009 ", does it not? Certainly does on my screen, so yours ought to match. I know time zone mismatches can affect Watch dates...but you and I ought not have a time zone issu...

As I said when you reappeared after the post-Tank hiatus, I was glad you decided to return. The same goes for the others who have resumed participation in discussions. Obviously, our views differ, but somehow we manage those differences without the mutual tail-twisting that happens in other interact...

SD, despite saying you "no longer feel enough urgency to engage in refuting what [you] consider obvious misinformation," you did exactly that. You posted a response to a Current Events post here. You couldn't have imagined it would go unanswered. It could have been in the thread, with onl...

I agree that the topics are important, but no longer feel enough urgency to engage in refuting what I consider obvious misinformation. For example, on the topic of the pandemic response, assertions than masking doesn't work against respiratory viri, that social distancing does not work, that vaccine...

I'd started an edit to my earlier post, but got caught up in making dinner. In the meantime, Nihilo made very similar points to what I'd meant to say. Here's the core of it: Some people are to dangerous to be allowed to keep breathing. I completely get that; some are unremediable. To quote Linden &q...

There are those who also cite deterrence as an argument in favor. I do not concur with that view (yes, it deters, but that does not suffice as a justification), only mention it lest the "why capital punishment" discussion overlook this aspect.

Of the many abuses of Woz, what stuck most in my craw was “Stay in your corner and whisper your religious ideologies to yourself. The adults are speaking. The dripping condescension is a principal reason, along with the source being a mod of the forum in question. That Wos takes a "Not to ...

Agreed. I do intend to do a reread focused on harvesting all the relative geography clues in the cycle of The Great God's War based on the methods I learned from Atlas of the Land , and to share my (likely very rudimentary) model of world where this series takes place. That's an aspiration, not a co...

Perhaps the suggested rule needs more specificity? Or does that just open another rabbit hole of hairsplitting? As has been mentioned, a potential case for a New Tank is the commonality of Watchers as SRD fans (or at least SRD-aware enough to pass the new member signup ...back when that worked.) I l...

It is indeed good to see you back on the Watch, SerScot! You vanished right after the 2016 election; your views on what has transpired since would have been of interest. Hope all is well with you. Jay, and Jay alone is responsible for excising the Tank. I can't speak to his reasoning, but while I mi...

[pedant] Was it not Jake who wanted four whole fried chickens and a Coke, with Elwood ordering dry white toast? [/pedant]

Nevertheless, yay to repartee.

For a take on where genetic recreation of dodoes might lead, consider the dodoes in Bill Holbrook's Safe Havens.
