I've got a suspicion Artagel pretends to be more simple than he really is. Late in A Man Rides Through Artagel was reprimanded (by the king?) for clinging to his military career and risking his life time after time instead of becoming a ruler. We should assume that wasn't the first time the subject ...

The region was ruled as a 'mandate', not a colony from the start of the British and French presence in the area. It was never meant to be part of British sovereignty. If the two World Wars didn't occur maybe colonies would still fill the globe but they did and the European powers retreated from almo...

What's your point here, I wonder? That we should base our policy on fear? Let the world's bullies dictate our behavior?

Mother-daughter conflict. That's very possible. A mundane explanation to fit the little cottage backdrop. With no distractions to keep them busy they might needle each other. Queen Madin is a doer. She chose to isolate herself from the larger kingdom but surely surely the forced idleness put a strai...

after the blatant comparison Domne makes between her father and the Cadwal ruler, do you think a scene between Terisa and him would add anything to the story? Also, if Eremis won, would he become the Cadwal (et al) successor with Terisa as his primary mistress?

And then there's a work of concept art for the movie that was in the works a while ago, which no one has seen, but which Donaldson has said was really good. It's love to see it, but I doubt that will happen. I am left to wonder if it conveyed anything like the sense of pattern and message which the...

Surely there is some significant purpose for Geraden and Terissa having special, heretofore unseen talents. It doesn't seem likely that such a well-paired combination of unlikely abilities manifested merely to defeat Eremis and Vagel. It might be that the events of Mordant's need are merely a precu...

Geraden, person of the people. It took considerably longer than she had expected. In fact, it spread out over several days. Geraden was familiar with a bewildering combination of routes which stretched through Orison from end to end and top to bottom. He had never been able to win admittance to the...

Also, Torrent doesn't actually blush. Her cheeks remain pale, untouched.

Does she take on girly mannerisms and implements (her famous toy she still sleeps with) as a gesture of support for her mother? Maybe this is too conspiracy theoryish though.

And after 'They all lived happily ever after'?

Do you see room in Mordant's Need story for continuation after the end of the duology? Or possibly a prequel? Mordant Need is well built but I'd love to read more from this world. Havelock and Joyce tales of heroic youth Old Margonal rebuilding his kingdom humanely between the two wars. Terisa some ...

Well, okay. But this would not have been the first case of a woman (or a man) being interested in someone very much like their father (or mother), if that had been your suggestion. Eremis does have other features that would remind Terisa of her father. He's older, well off, urbane, does important t...

Donaldson is good with nature descriptions. Both good and bad.

I'd like to live in a house like Madin's and Torrent's in Fayle. Forest fires, demon children and mysterious raider ridden landslides are a drag but the house and the surrounding forest sounded beautiful
