God, as much as we need the Tories out of power, it's gonna suck that this particular Labout leadership are the ones who benefit from the Tories fucking everything up. They're going to convince themselves they won on their own merits, and not by default.

I've been getting deep into Sayonara Wild Hearts lately. I've had it a while, played it through a few times, but now I'm going for trophies and stuff. Genuinely one of the all-time greats.

Man, the interest rate thing really bothers me. I'm no economist, so I might be missing something, but elements of it seem pretty clear. The idea is, raising interest rates encourages people to save rather than spend, and in turn the markets will lower their prices to encourage the spending back, an...

It's some light sitcom fun, though I do find the cgi very distracting. Going for a full-CGI character is a big swing and I don't think they quite gave it the budget it needed this time round. She looks really great in closeups where she isn't moving much, then as soon as she moves or talks it's very...

If I remember right, I tend to like Gaiman's stuff while I'm reading it but then it doesn't leave much of a lasting impression afterwards. Except for Sandman, that series really is great.

Been a while since I posted here huh. I've played other things since Elden Ring, but most recently: Cult of the Lamb - fun dungeon crawler roguelite with a town management sim attached. Lacks a bit of depth in the management side (I ran out of upgrades for my cult long before I finished the combat s...

Depends on when the riots start. We'll have to see just how inadequately they deal with the energy price crisis.

Slightly more elegant that hiding in a fridge, but still pretty obvious.

A general election before the 5 year term limit requires a two thirds majority vote in Parliament, if I'm remembering correctly. Not sure Johnson can spring it on people as a surprise. Currently 141 Tory MPs have publicly announced their support for Johnson; he needs 180 to stay in power. He still s...

Call me a pessimist but my immediate instinct is that he'll survive the vote. Here's hoping he doesn't, although whoever replaces him isn't likely to be any better policy-wise, simply more competent or less nakedly corrupt.

I dunno, I kind of think it is in the spirit of Eurovision, given that the contest exists not really for pure artistic expression but as a venue for peaceful connection between the many nations of Europe after a long history of conflict.

I enjoyed the film, though I think it was held back by the need for it to fit the MCU style. Could have done with the Sam Raimi weirdness going even deeper. As for the TVU question, I was under the impression that the end of Loki meant the timelines were splintered again and no longer limited to the...

200-300 people a day in the UK are dying from Covid. Bit more than the common cold.

I have also been playing Elden Ring. Never played a Souls game before and wasn't sure I'd be into it with the rep it has for punishing difficulty, but this one is a lot of fun. It's huge game and every bit of it is really well designed. If something's too difficult you can go do other things and lev...

That's not compromise. That's complete capitulation on everything Russia was asking for prior to the invasion.

Russia is hoping the fear of an invasion will force the NATO countries to agree to some of what they want, and if not, they're hoping they can grab and hold the already separatist regions of Ukraine the same way they grabbed Crimea. I expect they're betting on no one wanting to get into a war with t...

The Perrin/Berelain stuff in Crossroads of Twilight is, so far, much worse than it was in Winter's Heart. Though really whenever Perrin/Berelain gets focus things take a dip regardless of the book.
