I finished rereading Winter's Heart . This and book 8 before it are pretty decent! They've got some solid plot movement going on, things actually happening, a lot better than A Crown of Swords. At this point I'd say the real dip in the series is around books 5-7, and book 10 of course is the worst, ...

I finished A Crown of Swords a couple days ago. That book... had no plot. The climax of the Bowl of the Winds storyline happens in the first 6 chapters of the next book; the climactic final chapter of ACoS is the ending of events set up in Lord of Chaos that were not touched or changed at all in ACo...

Oh, I don't care about spoilers much. I've been looking stuff up on the wiki to remind me of things I've forgotten and read plenty of stuff from later on, including what happens with Taim. But he was 100% meant to be Demandred in Lord of Chaos - he's constantly saying things that no one from the Thi...

I just finished Lord of Chaos . It's interesting; you can see this is where Jordan's overwriting began to take over the series for real. There are storylines he's setting up that he barely begins in this book - and this is the longest book in the series. He manages to give it an arc insofar as it be...

Finished The Shadow Rising . The interesting part of rereading these is seeing how the writing changes as the series goes on. For example, the sniffing and braid tugging the series is famous for only really takes off in book 3. Book three and four also have a shift in style toward a broader, more en...

I've never actually read the last three books. I tried the audiobook of book 12 a few years back but couldn't stand the narrator's voice so I refunded it.

I've started The Dragon Reborn.

I'm not sure what discussion you mean, since I've never read anything by Sanderson!

Sounds to me like the entire reason for the verdict is that the destruction was not arbitrary at all. I quite like the reasoning here and appreciate a bit of consideration for the motivations of protestors. You run into far too many problems when you put rule of law onto a pedestal so high no one ca...

I was curious who Laura Dodsworth was after you mentioned the book, apparently she is a photographer with no particular expertise on the subject of the Covid pandemic, but the cherry on the cake was this: https://i.imgur.com/2Md19p7.png lol. Of course she's not just an anti-vaxxer (her Twitter makes...

The various Wheel of Time fan subreddits are a total shitshow - they hate the series. I don't mind it. The final episode was weak, not a huge fan of where they went with it, but I can see how they're picking out the parts of the story that matter in the long run in order to fit things into a very ti...

The problem of course is that while less severe it also seems to be more transmissable, meaning a higher number of cases and therefore although the severe cases are lower proportionally, there are still a lot of them.

Yes, the actor playing Mat left the show between episode 6 and 7 (when they shut down for Covid) and they had to work around that when shooting the last two episodes.

 Probably in about two weeks time at this rate Av! Not a chance, really. The Tories may replace Boris and have a leadership contest, but there's no way in hell they're risking their massive majority on an election any time soon. They'll cling to it as long as they legally can. Unfortunately Pr...

Episode 6 was pretty good imo. There's a pretty clear path now through the final two episodes for where this is going, though obviously they skipped a ton of the book to get there. The main issue, I think, when you're not looking it through the lens of changes in adaptation, is that the whole story ...

Maybe they just tried to do what GoT did, and spent 80% of their budget on a big action finale. One of the other things bugging me - in the books, the boys all have a shared dream where they meet [redacted] and he tries to convince them distrust Aes Sedai, and he sometimes looks like he's got fire i...

I've started rereading The Eye of the World myself, and I'm beginning to appreciate that adapting this book into only 8 episodes was an impossible task to begin with. I think they're doing their best, although there are places I'd wish they kept a bit more of the book instead of replcing it with new...
