That wasn't the impression I got at all. I got the impression that the lurker knew who Covenant was very well, and that Covenant read this correctly. After all, the whole bargain was predicated on the lurker knowing Covenant was its only hope. The whole Pure One thing was rather incidental. From Th...

The choice is too tough for me to make. Tolkien is the better designer ("sub-creator"), but I consider Donaldson the better writer.

The mirror that would take me to the countryside by the Closed Fist so I could go there anytime I wanted to "stress out", I suppose.

In addition to Danlo's opening post here: We also know that Darsint is chivalrous (he has Terisa move aside after his translation and tells her, "I don't shoot women"), has a sense of remorse when he makes a mistake (he is mortified when he realizes he has disfigured Myste), and that he ha...

I was surprised the epilogue wasn't Sheriff Lytton facing a recall election over his incompetent handling of a hostage crisis. :D

I always thought the Creator would show up in TLD. :( So did I. I thought he must've appeared to Jeremiah at the start of ROTE. I expected Jeremiah to reveal that. ^^^THIS. I was sure that the Creator visited Jeremiah with words of encouragement right before Roger came bursting through the door to ...

I'm glad to know TLD is selling well. SRD is a darn good writer, and deserves it.

I appreciate your recommendation, Savor Dam, and as I am just finished with THE LAST DARK (loved it, BTW), I plan to take up the Gap series soon. I would also like to see SRD's take on mystery novels with the Man Who series, but am finding it a challenge to locate them in the bookstores here in Tucs...

Myste. Sensitive, idealistic, gentle, and courageous, and very self-aware. She's just too cool.

Just wanted to say: I find Mordant's Need is easier to recommend to others (people who haven't read any SRD) than the Covenant books, because it's an inventive blend of fantasy, sci/fi, mystery, romance and horror with all likable protagonists, whereas I am less comfortable recommending the Covenant...

For me, it was funny when Geraden's rakish brother Stead arrived at Terisa's guest room in Domne convinced that he could seduce her even though he was recuperating from injuries recently given him by a jealous husband.

Master Gilbur is my least favorite character. What a brutal bully--and boringly predictable, too. Always reaching for his dagger when he encounters a situation he doesn't like.
Spoiler
I can't forgive him for killing off kindhearted, self-effacing Master Quillon, either!

I missed Myste being on this list, but that's okay, for I'm not p*ssed, 'twill be the Tor who gets my vote, his empathy deserves my note.

I voted for Master Quillon. I'm with matrixman, Mysteweave, Cambo, and Iolanthe in that Master Quillon's death was the most disturbing for me as a reader. Quillon was very supportive in giving information to Terisa about the history of Mordant, saved Terisa and Geraden during the summoning of the ch...

Bought TLD at a Barnes & Noble bookstore on October 19, and it being a new release got me 20% off the price (but I was so eager to get my hands on a copy that I'd have gladly paid 20% more if necessary).
