I was looking at this the other day, while browsing in B&N with Xar. I haven't read the other collection of novellas about those guys, so didn't get it yet. But does it say who the Sisters are? I was skimming through, hoping to see.

Yes, that's who he is. I don't think the Adjunct automatically inherits the job. I think it means this person speaks with the authority of the person to whom they are Adjunct. Disobey the Adjunct, and you are disobeying the Boss, in a very literal sense. RotCG spoiler: Tavore did not become Empress ...

Now now. I am a benevolent ruler. I let people's words stand as they are a remarkably high percentage of the time.

I immediately reread the first four before moving on to MT. Yeah, I loved them like very few things I've ever read, and I was very excited to reread them. But there's also just tons and tons of stuff in them, and I wanted a better handle on it all.

I think I preferred Tool to Onos Toolan or Onos T'oolan, and I preferred Onrack the Broken to Onrack. I'm trying to view each of them as one character. For me, Onos Toolan wasn't seen enough to really say how different he is. But he accepted the nickname for him - Tool - toward the end of GotM, but...

:LOLS: Absolutely! Cutter/Crokus was only good for a point of narration. We learned a lot from what Apsalar and Cotillion said to him.

Yes, I think you're right. But I think he Ascended at that point. That's when he supposedly died, and gained worshipers. That's when he became Dessembrae, Lord of Tragedy.

The reason I think he wasn't is because nobody ever says he was, and because he's not listed as an Ascendant on any of the lists of Ascendants. But I can understand if that view would need to be revised because of the conversation we see between Onos T'oolan and Logros. I'll have to read that again....

OK, more thoughts or bits of information. There's Dassem Ultor. First Sword of the Malazan Empire. Knight of High House Death. But not an Ascendant. BUT, he gained worshipers, and became a god - Dessembrae, Lord of Tears. NOW he's an Ascendant. Again, Iskaral Pust to Icarium and Mappo: 'Look at you ...

No, indeed, you don't need to die to Ascend. Treach, Osserc, and Rake were Ascendants without having died. Apparently becoming Soletaken does the trick. At least in some cases. Was Buke Ascended? I guess he ascended; there was an elevation. Human who can turn into bird is greater than human who cann...

Death, Ascendency, and Godhood

I've been spending a lot of time at malazanempire.com lately. I posted this there, after txting thoughts to ali. Heh. Not sure this is going anywhere, but I was thinking... Hood Ascended and became a god without dying. Much later, death (via Dragnipur), ended his godhood. Or did he die, then give up...

Heh. I think Orlion was talking to me about AATE, because I hate the Final Chrons through the first two books, and am not reading AATE or TFD. Anyway, Erikson and Esselmont are, indeed, writing more. Esselmont's Darujhistan book is supposed to be coming out in December, and I think another book or t...
