I've been trying to write on this topic for days. Started a couple of times, and couldn't keep to a topic. I'm going to be brief now, just making/supporting one point. I'm reminded of a conversation on Star Trek: The Next Generation, between Riker and the Guardian of a long-dead civilization ...

I'm still collecting at 39! :) Just went yesterday. But now I don't get much of anything every month. I look at everything and see if it looks good to me. The art is my complaint too. It seems they will let anybody draw for them these days. But Elektra has (another) monthly title, and I get that eve...

Like I said, this is a tough thread. So the answer is Silverlock, by John Myers Myers. My sort of weird clue was because fightingmyinstincts made a thread a few days ago about the book, and I was the only one to respond to it. So I figured that was one person who would know, and the rest of y...

Sorry danlo. :) Here's a clue: Copyright is 1949. I have reason to suspect that only one of you regular posters knows the answer, and I'm sort of waiting for him/her to visit this thread. :) And I guess that admission might be another clue. This is a tough thread, and I expect we'll stump each other...

He's lived as long as he possibly can Given the circumstance 'Cause he's protected himself from the world He never gave it a chance And he says: Here in my security I've put a limit on my self-potential and my possibility She's seen these walls and they never change Everything's in its place Her ...

The Red Branch is celtic, a subject of which I know little. I think it was a group of warriors, like the king's guards or something. Yeah, something like that. I don't remember exactly either. It's been many years since I read it. Then I loaned it to my mother, and never saw it again. But when I fo...

It took me years to realize that I don't get bored by anything. It seems that I'm just in a mood sometimes, and I'm bored no matter what. Other times, I can be doing any horribly uninteresting, repetitious thing, but I'm happily thinking about other things. Maybe TCTC :) :)

Now for the linguistic angle: the "r" at the end is a specific form of the name. Unfortunately I cannot remember exactly what it means, but it only shows up in specific uses in sentences I think. Making myself understood in English is problem enough for me! lol You mentioned German. I too...

However a check in the elder edda shows that Gungne is described as Odin's sword in the comments to one of the poems. The spear itself is never actually described in the poems. But everywhere I check on the net it is described as a spear. As far as I can tell, Odin's spear is not called Gungnir<...

I do not think that you would find a lot of people that knows what gungnir is, as a matter of fact I am not certain myself but if I had to guess I would say that is was Odin's spear, the one that never misses. If you had to guess, you'd be right. :) In conclusion I would have to say that they are o...

I'm curious about how popular the Viking mythology is in Norway today. I don't imagine it's a required subject in school, but do most people know a bit about the topic? Do most Norwegians know what Gungnir is? I've heard that the language of Iceland is exactly as it was when the Vikings settl...
