The sunshine fell thick on the cabbage rows. I passed on to the snap peas, which seemed to have grown three inches higher overnight. It was among those peas I'd found the sparrow, dragging a wounded wing.

The horrid face he thought he saw in the window was not his idea of a convalescing weekend in the woods. Two disturbing questions began to coalesce in his mind. What had happened to his missing shaving kit, and why was the bathroom cabinet filled with animal hair?

He'd given the witch all of his savings in exchange for a potion made of nightshade and bat hair and who-knew-what-else. Safe at home, he cautiously uncorked the phial, releasing a cloud of chartreuse vapor. Yesss... if this didn't help him solve the crossword, nothing would.

LOL! I was -not- expecting that.

He had imagined what a fine tribute it would be to his class if he could steal the golden statue. In the dark, cobwebbed attic, standing before the shattered mirror, things looked a bit different. As if explicitly designed to thwart him, a tarantula settled down before the statue's niche.

The crypt was a work of art, all wrought iron and marble and fluted columns. Bob was unable to appreciate the architecture, having awoken inside, wrapped in linen bandages. 'It must be Monday,' he thought as he struggled to compartmentalize the events that had led to this situation.

"cynosure": WHAT a word!
Why have I had a lousy approximation for its definition all my life? :)

She looked up from her desk, looked from left to right. The cynosure of a far-off land was far more attractive than the clockwork gods of pen and tick-mark. "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men," clicked into mental view, colliding with that thought - chaotic as a rumbling stomach.

The sky was heavy and ominous, shades of colloidal silver and mercury. The storm broke like the fury of nature incarnate, lashing the landscape with wind and rain. A single soggy phoenix flapped by, muttering through his beak as steam rose from his fiery feathers.

She was just like, "crap; I feel like I'm waffling, but, seriously, I barely know their vocabulary of symbols." " 'Mighty woman of valor,' my foot!" "If I wear my pink scarf and a green headband, will people even think 'triangle and circle,' and even if they do, what does it even mean?"

That made me happy.

It was as if she had begun to fulminate from within. Her mind, though, she thought, was less bound - more elastic. Elastic collisions of her words with other minds, however, caused her to wish she had redacted much content each day.

Very classy!

Chelsea coughed for a moment after the living room's largest rug had been beaten to remove all dust.
Next, she considered how she would clean her aunt's favorite tapestry.
It depicted, in vibrant colors, a unicorn being chased by a maiden.

This morning I decided to wander around my neighborhood without a clear destination in mind.
At some point it occurred to me to wonder why I was doing such a thing.
After all, it wasn't as if I expected to see something unusual anywhere, not like spying a wombat or anything.

"Must.. not.. yield to exhaustion," were the words I accidentally pulsed onto the display. When the in-studio audience chortled at my mental slip, I vowed to overturn every glass and plate in the joint - also, unfortunately, on-screen. I just would not win with words, so I set my face to surmount the last wall and get this horrible sensor removed from my brain.

Confronting the enigma of the strange shifting electrical power hovering over her house was the hardest thing for Sandra to do.
Her nerves were already brittle from having to face down alien threats of extortion earlier in the day.
So many challenges within such a short time had the ability to cause painful flatulence if she let the stress get to her.

With a the sagacity and authority of a head full short, fluffed gray hair, she lifted an eyebrow. She drew her finger down the page to the clauses that could disaffirm the agreement. "Your business plan was just a figment of a dream, my friend," she said, shrugging.

I gave a shrug to the latest wave of nonsense that threatened to overwhelm my work. The week was progressing like a tortoise mired in molasses - ponderous, yet inexorable and also rather sticky. I didn't really want to think about that last part, but it seemed to have etched itself into my mind.

Tortoise in molasses! :-D
I am pleased to have taken some small part in the production of that metaphor.

The store's neon sign was like a siren song throbbing through her psyche. Her fingers itched to touch the weave of the fabrics which summoned her through the glass. "'Like-Vintage Upholstery and Linens,' here I come!"

(tee-hee, "summoned her through the glass"!)
