Interesting theory, Mystikan. Unfortunately, His relative condition right at the times he entered and exited the land kept most of those things from happening. Besides, when he made the conscious decision to shave in Illearth War, he was also making the decision to not prove/disprove the Land. So, in short, I gues I'm saying you're mistaken, Mystikan. :D

Returning to Elena:

To hear Elena talk, she was raised by Triock and the Ranyhyn. Triock was trying to make up to her for the lacks of her family, and would have forgiven her anything. The Ranyhyn were power and wonder and immense privelege. Between them, they must have rewarded the expression of every spark of talent she had.

I don't remember any mention of Elena ever having a partner. Does anyone else? So far as I remember, the only love she knew any more was care for her Land and people. When Covenant arrived she was nearing 40 and dedicated to power. Covenant personified power. How could her untapped heart resist?

This could turn into an interesting discussion. But it's off topic for this thread, so I'll continue it here...

Good stuff, Joy! I think you're right that Elena never had a partner. And I'd forgotten about Triock's role in her upbringing (hmm, must be time to re-read the books again!).

From what I can tell, Lena was mentally ill (even before the insident). I get that now. I agree with the previous poster that the problem with Elena is genetic. I think everybody can pretty much agree on that.

But even excluding that fact, maybe she just had the hots for Covenant. Who knows, maybe he's just one beeshy, sexy leper.

....

It could happen.
